Although I am sure the popular showings are manipulated by some, it isn't as wide spread as it could be without a reasonable strategy to combat the problem. Thanks for sharing your thought, John. I've gotta clarify I've got enough sense not to spam public tags and in any case would be using namespaced tags (my_bot:tag1, my_bot:tag2 ...) Would I introduce a new citizen to delicious it'd be as quiet and polite as possible. And would definetely not mess with the popular category :) -- Manuel a veces :) a veces :( pero siempre trabajando duro para Simplelógica: apariencia, experiencia y comunicación en la web. http://simplelogica.net # (+34) 985 22 12 65 ¡Ah! y escribiendo en Logicola: http://logicola.simplelogica.net ___ discuss mailing list discuss@del.icio.us http://lists.del.icio.us/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss

On the other hand, especially with irc bots, some of these things are probably there because some small community of people, like the regulars on an irc channel, find them useful. They've agreed on some specific tagging strategies and implemented them programatically. I'm not sure that's counter to my desired del.icio.us experience. All cool interenet tech is eventually turned to evil when there isn't strategies in place. I understand the nofollow tag is in place, but not all spamming is about google pr. Just some thoughts...
