RE: [abcusers] Make only lyrics and chords from abc?

The free programs at:

http://world.std.com/~gdallal/UKE.HTM

can produce the type output you mention. Just run the
option that doesn't produce the ukulele chord diagrams.

Subject: [abcusers] Make only lyrics and chords from abc?

Hi,

(please view this with a monospaced font)

With the modern software available you can obviously print
melody without
lyrics, print one single voice out of a multivoice file etc.

It normally should also be possible to use the same abc file
to print out
something like this:

(1) good version:

/ /  //  || C /  F /   | C /   /   /  |
 It's been a || hard day's | night and I've been  |

Bb / / / | C / / / |
working like a | dog |

(2) alternate version:

CF C
It's been a hard day's night and I've been
Bb C
Working like a dog

Or some other format that a band can use when some of them
say they don't
necessarily need the notes (the bass player for example).

Do you see the possibility of adding such a feature, or
something like it to
already existing software and have the result printed out as
a PS file?

???

RE: [abcusers] skink, java and |

2004-12-12 Thread Richard Walker
That would be possible, but considering how often we use |
in abc I don't consider that an option...

If there is no | available, perhaps you could use a
substitute character (like a / or \ or ~) and do one search
and replace at the end of your editing so you only have to
worry about the | once?

I got Finale 2004, used it a while and then went back to abc

[abcusers] jaabc2ps question

2004-11-14 Thread Richard Walker
I attempted to print instrument names associated with each
voice as follows:

V:1 name=Violin Obbligato
(abc code for voice 1 here)
V:2 name=Chorale
(abc code for voice 2 here)
V:3 name=Violin Harmony
(abc code for voice 3 here)

I thought this format is supposed to print the name (Chorale
for voice 2) in front to the first occurrence of that staff.
Am I doing something incorrectly or have I misunderstood how
the name= works?

Hi/

I recently signed up to this list, and to the digest. Could
someone possibly point me to info on accessing the latter,
so that I could catch up on current issues? Is there A FAQ,
maybe? Thanks.

RE: [abcusers] spam

2004-09-02 Thread Richard Walker
On my Linux box I'm filtering with procmail.

SpamPal works on Windows systems. It behaves as an e-mail
server that gets between e-mail addresses and any Windows
e-mail program in use. It ain't perfect, but can be
configured to filter most spam. There are probably other
programs that do a similar job.

[abcusers] Indexing tunes with ABCMUS

2004-08-25 Thread Richard Walker
I recently read about the ability to index tunes in one or
more abc files using ABCMUS. Unfortunately, I have been
unable to do so. Would some kind individual reply (maybe by
private e-mail) with some simple directions about how to
index the tunes contained in a single abc file. If I can
get one done, multiple files should be easy from that point.
I've attempted to output txt files and html files. The
files are created, but with no tune information indexed.

consider extending the K: to allow K:none?

RE: [abcusers] On parsers again - Outlook PHP

2004-08-15 Thread Richard Walker
How many computer users nowadays have ever seen or used
a punch card? I have a couple in a box as souvenirs.
That 72 is especially bizarre. How many people these days
could even tell you where that strange number comes from?
But lots of software does it.

I used the columns after 72 for sequence numbers so I could
use the sorter to put a deck of cards back in order if
(when) I dropped them. Up to 72, I used for FORTRAN code.
lol ... and on a good day I could get two or three runs at
the school computer.

[abcusers] abc format to chord chart

2004-08-11 Thread Richard Walker
I'm looking for a simple program (DOS, Windows, JAVA, C,
BASIC or FORTRAN - yeah right) that will take an abc format
file and convert it to a chord chart while preserving the
lyrics if they are included in the abc format file.

Does such a program already exist? I did spot a perl script
written by Anselm Lingnau a few years back that could
certainly be transformed.

[abcusers] Chorus vs. Lyrics

2004-08-03 Thread Richard Walker
I have tunes with multiple verses and one chorus. When I
create notation, the space used for the chorus equals the
space used for the verses, even though there is only one
chorus. Is there a way to leave the verses alone, yet cause
the space used for the chorus to shrink to a single line?

RE: [abcusers] ABC parser output data structure.

2004-07-27 Thread Richard Walker
I'm definitely confused. I'll just keep reading and maybe
I'll catch on to the goal.

ABC is a text format and it seems like most things
associated with ABC might fit better if text, but then again
I don't exactly know what is being proposed. If it is to
read ABC files and convert them to other formats for a
variety of OS and software, seems like Java (stand-alone)
would be something to consider. Isn't that software totally
portable to other platforms?

I'm back to the reading mode ...
