Just got back from Mays Point to photograph the woodpeckers. A baby was
sitting its head out quite often. There were even some food exchanges. One
time I caught the parent with two grapes. When I look at my images I may find
insects too. The baby was most active between 9-10. You can only
The woodpeckers seem to feeding the babies both insects and berries. The
parents certainly don't go to the hole with food as often as you would think
they should. Of course, we don't know how many young they are feeding.
Here's an image of a feeding. I hope to add more images later.
One of the babies has fledged. Seen being fed by parent.

Yesterday while photographing the Red Headed Woodpeckers and young, my friend
John Garofalo took and interesting picture which I would like people to look at
and comment on. In the picture you will see a parent looking out of what we
have believed to be the only nest hole. In a tree to the
I hadn't seen any in weeks, then a couple showed up. Again, I haven't seen any
in days, but I'm keeping my feeders up for those flying south and need a place
to stop.

I had a spring treat early this morning. There were 3 Bluebirds squabbling

Just had a fly over from a male Northern Harrier! I haven't seen one in my
neighborhood since a house was built on the lot next door, so maybe in 13
years. Last time I saw one locally it was on the polo field in Skaneateles in
winter several years ago. It flew back across Rt. 20 to the farm
Saw my FOS Osprey on the bridge near Mays Point. It sat on the cross bar
probably wondering where its nest had gone. I went through the wildlife drive
around noon. Lots of gulls. It sounded as if I were at the ocean. There were
a few GBHs , one lone Harrier, and a pair of Tundra Swans,
Between 5:00 and 6:00, I saw flight after flight of Snow Geese. I'm half way
between Skaneateles and Auburn. They were mostly going east toward
Skaneateles. They seemed to taking off from farm fields near me.
