There's a red headed woodpecker at Palmer Woods, north side, 42.461656 N 76.481159 W, first seen attacking a pileated woodpecker who held fast for a bit before fleeing. It's been foraging and stashing food in a white oak, and making occasional forays to shoo off interloping blue jays. It

Shirley reports that she just saw a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER being chased thru our side yard by a Pileated WP. She knows the difference between Red-headed and Red-bellied WPs and clearly saw the all-red head and all-black back, plus the bold white areas in flight. This is the first Red-headed WP
