I just wanted to report identical wish.
IMHO ping should beheva just like most others applications,
and connect using address returned by system resolver,
regredless it is ipv6 or ipv4. It should step by step try to send

This is becuase RESOLVING can still involve IPv6 (depends on your resolv.conf,
and your upstream DNS servers). -4/-6 option changes which of the DNS records
to use for CONNECTING.

I know there were bugs reported about IPv6 support,
but they were not really solved, beyond updating documentation
about current situation.
I think IPv6 support can be easily added to denyhosts,
by having usersupplied prefix size, which
started without problem.
Other possibility in my case would be to add ssl-cert manually to /etc/group,
or to LDAP. But had no time for this.

IPv6 works in HTTP streams without bigger problem,
but I found messages from mplayer not very helpful,
as they are incorrect.

with frequent CPU wakeups.
I had squid on one machine, and it is actually used
not very often, i today also tested another proxy software
(ziproxy), and was stracing it.

I tested it both in lenny and squeeze version (3.1.3-1).
I set up Port and have no Address in ziproxy.conf.
According to documentation this means bind to all interfaces.
Unfortunetly it bind to IPv4 socket.
