Hi,
AOO can open .docx but cannot save in that format. LibreOffice can however.
Basically, if you need to exchange documents in .docx, then stick to MS
Office, that's the vendor lock-in policy.

Hello all,
I downloaded version 4.1.8 of Apache Open office, but I still can’t open .docx
documents. Open Office failed every time.
Am I forced to buy MS Office?
met vriendelijke groet

We became aware of the problem with the release of BigSur. That just happened
about the same time as the 4.1.8 release.
4.1.9 is another discussion.

And how does that contradict above sentence?!

I disagree.
Some users have reported this bug with old builds (4.1.3 and 4.1.7 too).

Hello,
If there is no objection I will add the following to the release notes for AOO

Yes, but that is a branch we will not be releasing soon... ;-)
AOO 4.1.8 *does* run on Big Sur, but we
Hello jörg,
here is the last test to fix this problem.

this build is from yesterday.

Hello,
I had opened the thread "Does AOO 4.1.8 run under macOS Big Sur?" and it was
also diligently discussed there.
But there seems to be no solution yet and at the same time the requests from
users who are practically not able to work anymore because AOO does not work
under BigSur continue.
