Re: [DQSD-Users] Addons

2008-07-22 Thread Steve Babineau
I think that's probably pretty close to being accurate. In fact, I
bet I could rewrite iptools as a search to keep in line with DQSD
convention. iptools doesn't use anything special, really.

When I made it I didn't know any better *shrug*, but I think the
terminology is a little confusing. iptools isn't a search, really,
it's an add-on to a product that allows you to search websites.
Pedantic, I know, but that's what confused me at first and why I
headed down the path of an add-on. :)

Maybe the docs could be changed a little to describe the differences a
bit better?

I'd be happy to write a tutorial on how to write a search, and then
extend it to show how you do not, in fact, need to search anything
with a search add-on ;)

 Hi guys,

 I wonder if addons are simply searches that require additional files,
 beyond the .xml spec? It seems so, looking at the existing ones. Other
 than that, I don't see how being an addon would allow greater reach
 than a search, except perhaps by convention.

 I think that's it, anyway: an addon is a search with additional
 stuff, be it COM components (timesync), a group of related searches
 (genealogy), web service wrappers (googlespell), that won't fit in a
 single xml file.

 Thanks for the usage statistics :)

Re: [DQSD-Users] Hello there!

2008-04-06 Thread Steve Babineau
Tom:

   It looks like most (all) of the other addons have an installer that
creates an addons folder in the Quick Search Deskbar program folder
(eg. C:\Program Files\Quick Search Deskbar\addons).  This folder isn't
there by default (though I would argue that it should be) so you must
create it.

Try this:

1) Create an addons folder in your Quick Search Deskbar folder then
extract the iptools.zip file into there. If done correctly you will end
up with something like C:\Program Files\Quick Search
Deskbar\addons\iptools and then 5 files in that folder.

2) Reload Deskbar (type ! in the Deskbar field then hit enter).

Let me know if you need more specific instructions.

To uninstall, simply delete that iptools folder and reload the Deskbar
again.

 renewip: Renews your IP address.
 showip: Shows your local IP addresses

Re: [DQSD-Users] Hello there!

2008-04-06 Thread Steve Babineau
Michael:

   For some reason the default popup colors for you are set to be those
colors. Do you have anything in your localsearch.css file?

In any case, I updated it so that you can specify colors separately if
you'd like. To do that, get the updated version here:
http://shifteightgeneration.com/node/18

then add this to your localsearch.css file:

.iptools_message
{
   color: black;
}
.iptools_descr
{
}
.iptools_val
{
  font-weight: bold;
}
.iptools_error
{
  color: red;
}
.iptools_disabled
{
   color: #88;
}

You can change any of these colors to suit your tastes.

Note to any one else who uses this new version: I don't know how to
include a css file in an addon so for now you most likely want to add
that above code to your localsearch.css. That will help make the output
more informational.

 Well, that works. However showip comes up with light-grey text on white
 background and isn't readable (see attached). How could I fix this?
