Hi guys,
I wonder if addons are simply searches that require additional files,
beyond the .xml spec? It seems so, looking at the existing ones. Other
than that, I don't see how being an addon would allow greater reach
than a search, except perhaps by convention.
I think that's it, anyway: an
I think that's probably pretty close to being accurate. In fact, I
bet I could rewrite iptools as a search to keep in line with DQSD
convention. iptools doesn't use anything special, really.
When I made it I didn't know any better *shrug*, but I think the
terminology is a little confusing.

it's an add-on to a product that allows you to search websites.
Pedantic, I know, but that's what confused me at first

Hi Steve,
I noticed from the e-mail archives that we discussed this back in
April. It had totally slipped my mind...
How does an addon differ from a search?
Thanks,

I have used most of the add-ons, and have the (3rd party) iptools addon
installed now, but have given up on most of the others over time. The
functionality exposed by addons is almost always available directly as a
search, so I use that method now - writing a replacement for it if I
have to.

Hi Kim.
I'm not well-versed yet in DSDQ, but as far as I'm aware, addons
allow you to get to areas on your system that searches do not. I'm
guessing that the iptools addon could be re-written as a search, but I
didn't (don't) know any better. :)
