[Dx4win] Shrinking windows

2014-12-09 Thread Bengt Christensen

Hello group,

I have a problem that I really cannot figure out how to solve.

Each time I start DX4WIN my configured and saved log windows resizes by
becoming slightly smaller i e gaps in between each window get larger.

The log QSO input window stays put, though.

I have been using DX4WIN since middle of 1990'ies. Never had an issue,
ever. But this is making me crazy.
I have tried all the skins approaches in DX4WIN. No difference. I am in
Expert mode of course.

Reason is most probably due to my computer upgrade to Windows-7.
So, reason is somewhere in the Microsoft land of arts. But where?
Is there a way around this forced resizing of DW4WIN windows?
Someone out there must have had this too?

No other softwares in my computer experiences the same effect.

[Dx4win] DX4WIN with Win 8

2014-12-09 Thread WB3AAL
Hello,

Would like to ask all the Windows 8 users if they have any issues running
DX4WIN with the windows program.

Looking to possibly upgrade and purchase a new desktop with Win 8 to replace
the old Win XP Pro machine. This will be a DX4WIN program and DX cluster
machine only.

Thanks and 73,

Re: [Dx4win] DX4WIN with Win 8

2014-12-09 Thread Ernie

Ron,

I've been running DX4WIN on my main ham computer, a new Dell machine
running Windows 8, since last spring. I've had no problems with DX4WIN.
I run a lot of ham programs on this Win8 computer without any trouble.

My only problem was adjusting to Windows 8. I couldn't adjust to the
loss of the 'start menu'. So I finally found a good add on program that
gave me the start menu function and look back. Not exactly line
windows XP or 7, but close enough.

I have the same issue with Win 8. What program are you using to make it more
like XP or 7?

Are there any other ways to make Win 8 more useable?

2014-12-09 Thread Mike Streeter via DX4WIN
I'm running 8.1. Hated the apps style start page, downloaded a Stardock program
and put me back to the Win 7 style start menu.  30 day free trial then one time
$5. Now I'm very happy camper. Google Stardock and check it out.Mike, WM5DX.

Re: [Dx4win] Shrinking windows

2014-12-09 Thread Ian Fugler
I have exactly the same issue, having migrated to a new PC with Windows 8.1.
It's mainly the bandmap window that seems to shrink just enough to cut off
the full callsign of the spotter. It takes a second to resize the Window,
but it is a little frustrating. I do have the box checked to leave all
windows in original position.

The best start menu replacement for Windows 8/8.1 is Classic Shell
www.classicshell.net and is free. Properly configured the look/feel
is very close to either XP, Vista or Windows 7.

This is a known bug with the skins.
Under filepreferencesscreen find the box Visual appearance and select
No skin selected

Not so beautiful but the windows are steady in size...

Thanks, Kostas. I tried that and it is certainly less pleasing on the eye.
So, I'll stick with the skins and resize the Bandmap window every so often.
