Steve, any files replaced by Help | Check for Updates will be saved
under BACKUPS/## where ## is a sequential serial number. So you could
replace the .EXE and .CHM files with an older version from one of
those directories.

[Dx4win] New version

2019-06-19 Thread Steve's Email
Am I correct in thinking that if I download the newest version it automatically
overwrites the current?

Assuming so is there any way to download separately to see if I want to update?

Right now the current version is running perfectly and I don’t want to jinx that

[Dx4win] new version 9 problem

2017-10-21 Thread George
I upgraded to V9 of DX4WIN. NO problem till I tried to set the baud rate for
my Kenwood TS990S. I had the baud rate set to 19200 in V8 and it connected
to my rig fine.
Now that I'm up and running V9 the "preferences", "radio" is fixed at 9600
baud. I cannot set it to 19200 like V8 allowed. I get a "bong" when I click
in the baud window.
Any suggestions?

Re: [Dx4win] NEW VERSION

2017-10-07 Thread Jerry N9AW
That is exactly what beta testing is all about. I think the underlying
question is WHAT is it that is being beta tested. Release 9 doesn't define
anything really.
It's just a bit unusual to not hear what the contents of the release will
be. That's OK, Paul has always done a very fine job so I am not concerned
about it. I've tried other loggers but I am not willing to go through the
learning curve.

Great. I have been a loyal user of DX4Win from the early days and still
use it to keep track of the logs for my two stations, contests and

[Dx4win] New version of DX4WIN

I started using dx4win in 1996, and after a period of being QRT.since 2008,
I am returning to the bands in the autumn of this year. Is a new version of the

This would help me plan how I log a few different modes the next few months.
Thanks any info.

Hello Jim. It's always nice to hear from you.

Answers to your questions:

Latest country file:
I have just downloaded it from your website.
The installation instructions will take a little time to digest!
I took the first step by copying the entire save directory to a
backup directory. Thanks for the tip that 8.04 shipped with an old
country file.

Are the calls associated with the correct entity?
Yes. All the calls on Needed seem to have the correct entity.
FO8AT is FO0 5/20/50 20 cw
DXCC Mixed C Band S Mode S

K1IMP/KC4 (Don Miller!) KP1 9/1/66 20 cw
DXCC Mixed $ Band $Mode $

K4IA/KC4 KP1 6/23/69 20 cw
DXCC Mixed -- Band -- Mode --

I suspect the marks following DXCC Mixed etc need to be changed.

Are the DXCC flags INVALID?
NO

The Country window says all the calls are confirmed.

I did not specify a particular band or mode so it should be a pure MIXED
listing.

What I don't understand why these 3 contacts are appearing on the MIXED
listing. I would like them not to appear in Needed at all since they
just clutter up the display. When I merge the new countries list with
all the new Carribean countries it's going to be cluttered enough until
I work them.

Hope you can help.

Make sure just the Mixed box is checked, and Band and Mode boxes are
UNCHECKED. Does this fix the problem?

The Mixed box is checked with a C and Band and Mode are now unchecked.
The 3 qsos now come up under the dxcc listing with an * asterisk.

Somehow I now have a new embarassing problem.
I cannot get the Needed list to come up on my DX4W804.

Select Reports then in first box select DXCC and in Report/Action

Are you using the country file that came with DX4WIN 8.04 (or an
update from AD1C?)

When you open those entries in your log, what entity appears? When
were the QSOs made and what mode?
You can find them using F8 in the QSO window, entering the call in
the Callsign window and hitting enter.

I ask about the date because there were cases in the older versions of
DX4WIN where you were given credit for QSOs prior to January 1, 1975
(the start date for the CW DXCC award). 8.0 was updated to properly
account for those.

On the other hand, at least one country I have never worked does _not_

 Marion Island

What do you see from DX4WIN if you search for ZS8 QSOs? (on the QSO
window, press F8, enter ZS8 into the Prefix field and press enter.)

[Dx4win] New version of ADIF County Conversion uploaded

2009-03-02 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
I've uploaded a new version of my ADIF County Conversion tool:

   http://software.ad1c.us/#County

This program takes an ADIF file from a contest logger like WriteLog or
N1MM, and converts the contest-specific county abbreviations into real
ADIF field values which can be imported into a general-purpose logging
program.

This version adds Colorado and Mississippi QSO parties. It also fixes
the state drop-down selection box (previously it was too small).

Please let me know of any problems you may encounter.

[Dx4win] New version and printing QSL labels.

2007-05-09 Thread Kostas sv1dpi
After some search i noticed that dx4win 703 does not preview k9yy fonts with
slashed zero (and i guess also no print), even i can see them ok in word.
But it seems to preview (print) ok when choose between times new roman or
arial fonts. Not sure what is happening with other fonts as i am not
familiar with these. I don't know if it was working in older versions but
Dimitri 4z5cp says that it worked with 503.

[Dx4win] new version

2005-01-19 Thread Steve Jackson
A quick download, and v6.04 is up and running.

Checking it out now, looks pretty familiar. I wonder what changed (besides
the obvious).

I do wish that this program supported the Elecraft K2, especially this rig's
very useful serial-port
streaming CW function. There are now nearly 5,000 K2 rigs out there.
That's more than the total of several other DX4WIN supported radios -
combined.

Since DX4WIN already sports a CW terminal function, and already connects to
the radio's serial port ... well, I'm not a programmer, but it seems like it
wouldn't be much of a stretch to add this clever and valuable feature.

Perhaps in a future revision ... for now, the subset of functionality
offered by the Kenwood 850 setting will suffice.

I like MMTTY and continue to use it for just the neat RTTY tuning indicator.
I have carefully compared my KAM, MMTTY and MixW for receiving
RTTY, and MixW definitely has the edge, with MMTTY second.

MixW is appealing also since it runs CW, Packet, FSK31, AMTOR, PACTOR
(receive only), MFSK, Throb, MT63, Hellschreiber, FAX and SSTV, as well as
BPSK31 and QPSK31. I do not use its logging capabilities.

Lets hope that all the various abnormalities within 6.02 and for that matter
were in Ver5 are addressed before worrying about adding to the programme
capabilities.
Like having the frequency logged for each Q in its own window, setting the
80m band to read 3.5mhz not near the top of the band at 3.7 it will then
conform with the rest of the world.!!
Changing notes for this call to read 'Name' because just about anything else
can change.
Having the bearing and SR/SS for large countries such as VK and VE split
down to call areas So as I can tell when VK6 sunrise is instead of Canberra
or Sydney.
Being able to log reports for more obscure propagation modes like MS or EME
within the RST fields.
Having a user defined data base of club membership numbers available etc etc

Yep, that sort of makes sense.

Yes... The frequency should be logged for compatability with just about

Not necessarily. I sometimes log that the guy is an ex-G=20

As I recall the developer of MMTTY said it was free to use but not to charge

for MMTTY if it was integrated into DX4WIN.

I also would sure like it to be a part of the next DX4WIN.

Dick, no one *knew* that Paul was working on a new release, not even the beta
testers (of which I am one).

It makes sense to me that Paul would be collecting ideas for the next
release as soon as the previous one goes out. He probably has a list with
hundreds of items on it that he has been looking into over the past two
years. At some point he will have a significant collection of them ready
to go out to Beta testers. Any suggestions coming in after that time will
go in the pot for the following release.

As I read the organization chart, Paul and Steve are management. Beta
testers are testers. Users are the collective wisdom that drives each
release.

Please forgive the rant, but I spent most of my adult life in software
development and remember will great frustration all of the gotta have
ideas I received as a release I had worked on for a year finally went into
testing.

Hi Gilles -- I'm not sure. Many of us send e-mails directly to Steve or
 Paul with questions and suggestions.

More broadly, nobody goes into the ham radio software business to make
money. Nobody I know of can begin to support his family from this, or
even
make enough to compensate him for the time spent at a remotely reasonable
rate. I have to believe that the reason there has not been a new version
is that Paul is busy at his real job. I've also heard second-hand that
he's moving to a new house, which could also take a lot of time.

[Dx4win] New version?

2002-11-15 Thread Mel Martin
Paul does add features based on input from the group, Gilles. We are
expecting a new version, perhaps before the end of the year. It's become a
complex program, and it takes a lot of beta-testing to be sure it's stable
before it's released... especially as it needs to be tested in the many
incompatible Windows versions that are currently in use.

I'm happy with it too, but it could stand some improvement

1. Fix IOTA editor so it doesn't crash when adding new reference numbers

2. Copy IOTA field from previous QSO to current one. This functionality used
to be there, but somehow got lost.

3. Improve the US County reports so that they have the same capabilities
as the other awards, i.e. mode support, needed lists, double-click on
 report creates logbook filter, etc.

4. Interface to MMTTY via API rather than complicated serial-port loopback.

5. Have it work BS7 and VU4 for me when they come on the air, even if I'm
not home!

:-)

[Dx4win] New version?

2002-11-12 Thread Scott Townley
I have to admit not following these threads closely, so this may have been
raised before, but I would like the WAZ tracking to reflect the actual
award...for example, if I set the DX Spotting window to WAZ, it
colors/announces zones like DXCC, but the single band WAZ awards are
single-mode as well. So if I have zone 23 confirmed on 15m CW, but not
SSB, then JT1AB on 21.290 comes up nothing.
