Morning Deni,
The bandwidth of a filter (in whatever form) has always been taken to mean
the bandwidth between the upper and lower 3db points of the filter's
attenuation vs frequency response, the 0db point being at the frequency of
least attenuation in the pass band. One hopes that the passband

Hi all,
Just thought I would let you know I fixed my problem with the 60m and
160m installs. I checked and rechecked everything and all seemed fine
which had me scratching my head. In the end, the problem was the
seating of the 60m board. I think I had the 8 pin header connected but
not the 3
Ian,
Double check C75 on the RF board - be certain it is 470 pf (471). You may
also want to check all the VCO range capacitors (C71 thru C75) while you are
at it too - you did change C71 to 120 pf did you not?
Nothing in the bandpass filter for 160 meters should have changed due to the
I finaelecraftlly got a zero beat on the www 10mhz signal and the K2 display
reads 1000 at the beat tone.
I had some problems as shown below.

Hi All
Have two problems with my new K2
1) Current limit operates at 2.5A where-ever I set the limit
2) Filter 4 always sets at approx 1kHz bandwidth, using Spectrogram. Set up
okay initially, but now faulty
Grateful for any suggestions

I need a list of K2 CAT commands including the commands that
represent the pressing of a key on the K2. I can't find it on the
Elecraft site but I know it exists somewhere. Can someone give me a
lead to where it is?
Hi Chas,
Did you look for this manual?

In the past, the -6 dB number was usually paired with a -60 dB number
to calculate the shape factor of the filter.
It would be the -60dB bw divided by the -6 dB bw, to give a shape
factor somewhere between 1 (vertical sided passband) and maybe
2 at the worst.
Not sure where the -3dB comes
Just found this in an odd search and thought some others might be interested
in it as well.
A solar backpack, they say it provides 2.5 watts, might be an interesting
way to keep a small SLA battery

Bob and all,
The proper point is the 'halfway' point - half the power is -3 dB (10 log
0.5) but half the voltage is -6 dB (20 log 0.5).
The -3dB point would be used when plotting power curves, while the -6db
point is correct for voltage or current plots. Typical filters usually

Question about transmitter drive setup.
I'm about to go on the air with the K2 Power knob full clockwise, and the
soundcard drive (Digipan) set for about 1A draw on key down. Is that right?

I never ran across that method .. what I did (and seems to work OK and
sound reasonable) is to set power knob to desired power, then adjust
sound card level to just where agc blinks first LED ..

I have a request for a K2 feature. I have a K2 with KPA100 and KAT100
in separate EC2. Currently, if the KAT100 is installed, the KAT2

I recently bought an amp and find that neither the amp, nor a
typical antenna, is cleanly 50 ohms and hence
K2 manual in parts listing shows an R22 , an 82K resistor.
I see no reference to this in the control board assembly or a place on the

Ha! I fire up PSK31 from time to time, make a contact, then it's back to CW
for the next six months!
Some modes, like some gear, are fun to tinker with in order to master the
techniques of making them work, but that doesn't mean that I'll enjoy using
them on the air all that much.

What I do is to set the power for 5watts in qrpmode and adjust PC to the
point where output just drop a little bit.
I think this will be almost the same as set power for 10 watts and adjust
pcoutput for 5watts.
Somehow I have never liked the second method because I like to limit my TX

Dan,
Don't throw that resistor away yet!!! Yes, I agree that Acrobat Reader is
useful for stuff like that, BUT ...
Check the 3rd step on page 15 of your Rev F manual - you will see that R22
82k is placed into the holes marked 'D3'.

The KX1 covers a lot of the SWL frequencies around the 40/30 meter bands.
Not a true SWL receiver, but it does a great job with both SSB and AM and
fits in your pocket. And, of course, if you get bored with SWL-ing you can
do a little Hamming on the 40/30/20 meter CW bands too...

Good Evening,
Another hectic week in Oregon but the weather is quite nice above 1200
feet. Down below it is gloom and mist but up here the stars are bright
and the light pollution is minimal. Hopefully the bands will be as great
as they were on Thursday and Friday. Then we can have fun
For a lot of us (I have seen this discussed before) the 3 db points
are fairly useless as a real predictor of performance. The 6 and 60 db
points do a much better job, telling where the skirts start, and where
they are diving.
I will never forget my disappointment in the Collins 500 kHz CW
