Gary,
There was an issue with early KXPD2 paddles where one or the other
screws in the back of the assembly were slightly proud, and would
short that side out against the KX2 chassis if the thumbscrews were
completely tightened.
On my KX2, I now have a small chip of paint missing on the
Thanks Chris and Mike,
I initially tried a continuity check and had little luck confirming bad or good
continuity. I spent some time this morning putting it in, taking it out,
adjusting spacing, etc. Everything was pretty inconsistent. For a while I had
the left side of the paddle working
Hi Gary,
You can disconnect the paddle and do a continuity check with your
multimeter. It seems that the problem is on the paddle. You can easily
disassemble it to see where the problem is. I did clean mine, and it is
fairly easy.

The left side of my KXPD2 paddle is not working, the right side is fine.
I've reversed the CW KEY 2 setting and it continues to be the left side that
doesn't work.
Is there a simple test I could do to determine if it is a paddle problem or a
KX2 problem? I don't have anyone local who owns a

I feel your pain but not your conclusion. For me the post-loosening problem
was solved with Loctite Blue. Since that didn't work for you, Loctite Red is
the next logical step. If that doesn't work, JB Weld most certainly will.
Just a drop of either adhesive coating the entire shank
Greetings,
First, before I go any further, I have nothing but the highest regard

to operator error
and Elecraft has fixed my self-induced KX2 injuries quickly and
efficiently. Plus, I've had

That awl on my Boy Scout knife? The end works pretty well as an emergency

Temporary emergency solution: eye-glass kit containing small Phillips
screwdriver available at any convenience store, airport, hotel, notions
counter, drug store, etc.
Permanent but removable solution: screw-threads lightly coated with Loctite
Blue (not Loctite Red).

I have the same issue. I'm thinking the little screws are too small to handle
the constant side "attack" pressure of keying from higher up on the posts. I'm
afraid I will crack the lexan/plastic if tightened to much and won't help for
long anyway. Seems they should have also been secured at the
A few weeks ago there was some discussion regarding the contact posts coming
loose on the KXPD2 paddles. I keep experiencing this problem, and can't keep
the philips screws on the posts tight for long enough to get through a QSO.
I'm reluctant to overtighten the screws or use Loc-tite, and
