Jim,
I'm not quite understanding why VMWare would be useless in this instance.
If you are using a serial USB device, you get to choose whether to present that
device to the host OS (the mac) or to the guest OS (the instance of windows in
the VM). Simply load up your drivers in the instance of
I have to agree Dave, I used fusion to set up my K144XV with no issues at all,
I was using Windows 7 on fusion so I am not sure what Jim's problem would have
been to cause the sort of issues he mentioned.

OK - problem solved.
Hey guys - thanks for the Fusion follow-up replies! I was going to give
CrossOver a shot but decided to look at Fusion one more time, as AH6TD and
VK3ADE said it worked for them. Well, I certainly have a giant egg on my face.

Jim,
This utility seems to be the only one where Elecraft is Windows-only with no
apparent plans to change. I discovered the same last year looking for the linux
version, when Elecraft support recommended using a virtual host. :-(
The easiest solution I found was installing VirtualBox (free)
On April 11, 2012 I asked support about Mac support for the
K144XV. Garry Surrency replied:
Not at this time, but we are working on it. You will need a Windows PC to do
the K144XV f/w update.
My current plan is to beg help from friends who have PCs should
there be a new firmware release. (I
Bill,
Check out CrossOver. It is a $59.95 app from CodeWeavers that sets up a PC
based program to run on a Mac. There is no requirement for Windows. I have used
it for the following things so far, JT65-HF, EZNEC2 antenna design software,
RS91 Icom Programming software, and lastly CWGet
I'd recommend Crossover as well. It's a little strange to set up, but once
done, it does a nice job.
I use it to run Echolink.

Looks like something has gone astray with my email receiving - I'm only getting
a couple of messages from this reflector, none of which were regarding my
K144XV Utility question. I just popped up to the reflector archives and see
that there were several replies. Thanks to those who answered me.
Well, as JC Fogerty said in his Stuck in Lodi Again tune: things got tough,
then things got worse…
It turns out that VMWARE Fusion is worthless for trying to run the K144XV
application under Win/XP. They send serial port data to a file, instead of to
the USB bus. Wonderful.

I posted this question several hours ago. It is in the archives, but I never
got an email so I'm thinking that it never got sent to anyone. If it did,
please excuse this possible double-post of my question. Here is what I asked:
I must be missing something - looking on the

Please tell me that there really IS a Mac version of the firmware and
where I can find it.
Your original e-mail did appear on the reflector okay, Jim. I've had a
look at all possible sources but, like you, am unable to find a K144XV
utility
