Thanks for this opening Stuart. Let me take a few minutes of your time
and go through just a bit of the history of EMC project leadership.
Over the years we have discussed at length the need for a definite
structure for the EMC project. Back in The NIST days, Fred, Will, and
Tom provided that
Hi John
In the ubuntu environment sudo and your user password is sufficient to
gain some root privilege.
Since I do a lot of editing of things owned by root I create a launcher
on my desktop. Right click and select create launcher. I name it sudo

Hi Al,
I suppose there are really two answers to this question. (a). write
the g-code yourself, tedious but gives you exactly what you want or:
(b) use a cam program that generates arcs with cutter comp.
Your question gives me a nice lead-in to bring up a small problem
within emc. Cutter

Gentlemen,
Another request. I would like to see the cutter diameter
compensation have a switch to enable/disable the current application
of cutter diameter compensation. This would allow the use of cutter
diameter compensation during short linear movement generatiing a
circular move. The

I know that Bobcad/CAM does it right. Other than that, you are

Gentlemen,
I have never met Paul Corner. I heard his name mentioned at the
workshop in Galesburg. It was not mentioned in anger. If someone had
anger toward or about Paul it was not expressed to me. I didn't
discuss the situation in depth as I was far more interested in
learning more about EMC

Thanks John. Glad that it works for you. I screw things up regularly.
I guess that's why I like open source -- there's always another version

This is not about turning your backs on hobbyist it is about putting an
industrial control in hobbyist hands and with the people in charge of emc doing
exactly that. Because you design industrial drives does not mean you are a cnc

Sorry - forgot to mention an important point.
I think all the EMC developers want EMC2 to be able to run basically any
machine, from a desktop hobby machine to a many-ton machining center.
The way we do this is to make sure the core components (interpreter,

What is the problem with hobby users having access to EMC? That they might not
use all the features? EMC is only providing interpretation of G-code. A
hobbyist is still going to have to function as a system integrator if they are
building their own mahcine, but even then they are not
