Currently driving a 48 Volt 90 Geo Metro with E-volks kit and
alltrax.
Have been offered a 96 metro 4 door automatic with no eng or trans
so I am looking at doing another
to a nice Advanced DC or WarP motor
with a PWM controller. The e-volks motor also sounds underpowered
low-voltage for modern EV applications, though at least they use a PWM
controller (granted, Alltraxes are designed for golf carts, not street
EV's)
The motor runs at 7500 RPM at 36VDC and draws

There is no official census of the nation's golf carts. But three

You want to do a really cheap conversion (kind of like the e-volks
controller. I may be off base but this seems about as efficient as it gets on
a budget. Since I am trying to do this under $2k though, the e-volks kit looks
pretty good. Except the contact cotroller. My wife would not drive that. 48V
would give me acceptable range. 48v because I need to leave
attack on this forum

You want to do a really cheap conversion (kind of like the e-volks
kits). So you throw in a constant speed shunt motor, and let the
tranny change speeds. No controller is needed now. Mind you, probably

Not even 1 sec and I have a useless, melted com
e-tek to prove it!
Starting up a slight incline at 36vdc thru a C-car
resistor so probably got no where near 600 amps. It
bit the big one quickly. So don't over load
the e-volks kits do), or do sepex control of
the motor. For lower power systems, you can control the field with
just a variable resistor. For high enough RPM, you can also get
regenerative braking (regen) -- just crank up the field voltage until
the motor stops drawing power and starts creating
many amps. I like
30 - 45
