[Exchange] outlook anywhere Troubleshooting

2013-07-19 Thread Graeme Carstairs
We have a client who is currently on SBS 2003 so Exchange 2003.

Outlook Anywhere works, and passes all tests fromt he MS Exchange
connectivity Tester as does server Active sync.

Users laptops work on 90% of Wifis but not on some others.

The ones it deffinately doesnt work on is BT Broadband, now the bizarre
thing is tha tBT Internet give you 3 SSID's on your wireless a home use
secured one, one for BT fon, and one for BT Openzone their hotspot service.

If the user is connected to their HOme it doesnt work, but if they connect
to the Openzone on the same router it does.

We have also found it not working on Hilton Honours Wifii at Hilton hotels.

When connected to ne that it doesnt work we have checked the followin

Outlook Web Access works.

Rigth Clcik on Outlook Icon and choos Check Outlook Connectivity and it
shows all connetec and all the requests going through with no fails.

DNS resolves correctly.

But Outlook just sits there showing connected and updating inbox with no
mail coming in.

Outgoin mail works fine.

Change the wifi to the openzone conneciotn and it all works fine.

Any ideas on where to look.

As surprisingly BT say its not their issue.

This affects 2 users at the same client but does not affect other clients
with user with BT broadband at home.

Im stumped.

Thanskl

[Exchange] New SSL Certificates with non public names

2013-08-07 Thread Graeme Carstairs
HI,

TRaditionally when you setup an SSL certificate for an Exchange server you
used a mutliname cert.

example

mail.domain.com
Autodiscover.domain.com
EX1.internal.local

etc

now you are no longer allowe dto have the .local addresses in the SSL
certificate, and as such the first site we have set this up on, their
outlook now reports the name on the certificate is invalid or does not
match the site name ex1.internal.local.

Whats the preferred or recommended way round this?

Thanks

[Exchange] Exchange 2007 to 2013 co-existense issu

2014-03-20 Thread Graeme Carstairs
Hi,

We have setup our Exchange 2013 server, and setup CAS and outlook anywhere
etc, using the legacy.domain.com setup on MS site.

Mail flow and all seems to be working great.

If I connect to OWS from outside or inside, I get the 2013 login page,
login with a mailbox on the 2013 server, I get the 2013 OWA. Login with a
mailbox on teh 2007 server I get the 2007 OWA.

I have moved a couple of mailboxes over, and they are working fine from OWA
but when using outlook, users are constanlty prompted for their password.
If they cancel this or ignore it outlook works fine until they try and
access the public folders, which as still on the 2007 server.

Then they get folder cannot be expanded errors.

Googling shows this to be an issue with outlook on Windows XP but not
Windows 7,
the clients all have windows 7,.

the solution was to download and install SP1, which I am in the process of
doing, in the hope that it may fix the issue.

It looks to me like the connection to the 2013 bos is fine, but when it
trys to connect ot the 2007 for the public folders that authentication does
not work.

I have treid setting Ooutlook anywhwere client authentication to basic and
NTLM on the 2007 server and no setting makes any difference just changes in
the erro message but that could be more coincidence as the changes have
occured when no setting has been modififed.

Any one got any suggestions?
thanks

Graeme

2014-04-02 Thread Graeme Carstairs
Nithing I think its just the current name for it.

Latest is we moved the mailboxes and are now exporting the public folders
via outlook to pst.

We will then mount up a new public folder DB and reimport the PF's from PST
via outlook into the Exchnage 2007

then we migrate them to 2013

This is all on a new ticket

2014-05-02 Thread Graeme Carstairs
HI,

One of our new customers had their internet access cut off by their
previous supplier ahead of schedule and it is going to take 4 or 5 days to
get a new one setup.

We have setup a mobile broadband dongle, and shared it so that they have
internet access and their exchange server can send mail.
But we cannot route mali inbound to it.

Their mail will soon be coming trhough our spam filter and from there we
can send it to any ip.

does anyone know off a mail hosting service that would accept all the mail
sent to it from an IP, and then allow access to it through a webmail
service.

We dont necessarily want to setup loads of individual accounts but as long
as someone can get in and check the mail to ensure no work is being missed.

TIA

Graeme

[Exchange] Exchnage 2010 single server full restore

2014-05-05 Thread Graeme Carstairs
Hi There,

Wee have been contacted by someone whose single exchange server has died.
It is running on a hyper-v host,

The VM and VHD were o-n the hosts RAID 5 set and it suffered a 2 disk
failure.

They have a backup of Exchnage from the night before, from their cloud back
up service, this backup service does not have C; Program files etc, but it
seems to have the files before the failure with DB's logs etc, and as its
Exchage 2010 I have not done a single server restore before.

Is it a case of

1. set up new VM with the same name as the old one
2. Install Exchnage 2010 again with the same name
3. REstore the backups.

Is there any prep I have to do before the reinstall, such as remove server
names from AD etc, or just leave it and install a new VM with teh same name
and carry on?

Thanks

Re: [Exchange] Exchnage 2010 single server full restore

2014-05-07 Thread Graeme Carstairs
Sorry I missed out a step.

1. reinstall windows server 2008 and set-up the disks as before with the
same folder structure
2. apply all SP's and patches and Exchange prerequisites up to the version
on the server when it crashed.
3. Run setup /m:recoverserverfrom the exchange DVD
4. once complete Exchange is reinstalled with all settings as it had before.
5. Copied the EDBs and logfiles to there correct folder.
6. Mount the stores.
7. Rekey SSL cert and reapply.

all working great.

was pleasently surprised to find that all settings were there, receive/send
connectors etc, ( i know they are in AD but I havent had to do a full
exchnage restore since 2003 and this was pleasantly sruprising)

only hiccup was the old SSL cert had server.domain.local (which you cant
have now) so Outlook throws up an error inhouse as it tries to connect to
server.domain.local and the ssl only has webmail.domain.com

So need to go searching for the config change needed so that internal
autocinfig sets up outlook to point to webmail.domain.com (which resolves
correctly internally and externally)

But have to say the longest part ofthe process was preparing the windows
server (took nearly 8 hrs) the actual exchange recovery setup and restore
took about 2.5 hours total.

First time I have done a recovery of Exchange 2010

But have to say it is a breeze.

Setup the server, all prerequisites and updates installed, volume and
 folder layout the same.

then copy the EDB and log files into the right place, mount the stores and
re do the SSL cert .

 Brillliant.

[Exchange] Licensing question

2014-09-03 Thread Graeme Carstairs
I have a question regarding Licensing.

If a client has 100 users on windows and Echange they will need 100 cals
for each, but if they have remote users who only use Exchange and dont have
access to any windows file services other than the ad account required for
their mailbox do they still require windows server CALS?

Thanks

  Hi There,

I urgently need to purchase a couple of routers but I would like
something not too expensive (i.e. cheap) but that can do the following

  1. Configurable Gigabit WAN port (i.e. link speed and duplex)

  2. support mulitpl static IP's on the WAN Port (not sequntial)

  3. allow for port forwarding from each static IP (so .1 port 80 to one
server .5 port 80 to antoher)

  4. be gui configurable

So we have pulic ips of

  x.x.x.10 - x.x.x.30

we have a router sitting between internet and a public lan and have
several devices connected to theat, we would like another router to sit
with its wan port on the public LAn, and its lan port on the private
  corp lan

assign it x.x.x.15, x.x.x.18 and x.x.x.21 and have all LAN traffic got
hrough this throught he publi lan and out onto the internet, and
incoming for thos ips on port 80 and 443 routed to an different
  internal server for each.

Any suggestions on something good and cheap?

[Exchange] Exchange 2013 powershell broken

2015-02-10 Thread Graeme Carstairs
One of our more junior Exchange techs hit a problem on an Exchange 2013 SP1
install Single Server client access and milbox roles

After working fine, for a few days after a reboot (no patches were applied
between reboots)

ECP and OWA were giving http 500 errors after logging in.

His Google Foo

located this site

http://www.noelpulis.com/fix-error-500-when-loading-shell-or-ecp-on-exchange-2013-sp1/

He tried the time sync

he tried the WinrM install (which he installed)

Then he tried the recreate powershell Virtual directory

the remove went well.

But when he tried the New-Powershellvirtual directory he got a page of
errors.

Now when you start Exchange management shell you get

New-PSSession : [td-ex1.tdocc.local] Connecting to remote server
td-ex1.tdc.local failed with the following error
message : The WinRM client received an HTTP status code of 403 from the
remote WS-Management service. For more
information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help topic.
At line:1 char:1
+ New-PSSession -ConnectionURI $connectionUri -ConfigurationName

+ CategoryInfo : OpenError:
(System.ManagemeRemoteRunspace:RemoteRunspace) [New-PSSession],
PSRemotin
   gTransportException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : -2144108273,PSSessionOpenFailed

All articles I can find about fixing this all use Powershell, and the
Exchange one isn't working, and if you enter the commands in normal
powershell it doesn't recognise them

Any one got any ideas.

The server is supposed to go to site tomorrow

Thanks

Graeme

Hi thanks

The dc's are fine

The Ecp/owa issue was the start

The big problem now is I can't run powershell

[Exchange] Extracting mail from edb files

2017-02-08 Thread Graeme Carstairs
Hi

I have been asked to look at this problem and thought I had it licked but no

An offices entire server farm was destroyed by water damage
They had backups
They decided to setup a new ad domain restored file data, restored sql data
But for exchange they extracted PST files from the edb contain on the vhdx
images they had just before the disaster using stellar edb to PST And
imported them into fresh mailboxes on a new exchange 2013 setup

Now 6 months down the line they have discovered that all mailboxes are
missing a years worth of attachments.
They have presented me with 3 vhdx files and two differenceing files for
the drives with the databases and the logs on them
I have mounted the vhdx and used stellar against the edb and still the last
years attachments are missing

Is it possible that they are in the logs or the differnceing disks?

Or is there a better tool than the stellar one to extract

Now I didn't work on the original setup so don't know why the differnecing
disks were created or can't say if a tool was used to remove the attachments

But what I do have is all the vhd's for the virtual exchange server ( they
only retained one copy )

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks

Graeme

2017-02-08 Thread Graeme Carstairs
Yeh some bright spark got rid of the original dc's so we don't have the
domain the exchange was part of

All we have is the exchange servers vhds

As they thought they had recovered everything and started a new sight their
backups and dr

Suffice to say the first thing I have sorted with them is to make sure
everything is now backed up

ok
So should I be able to stand up the exchange box without its dc's and then
extract from its edb files?

2017-02-09 Thread Graeme Carstairs
Sorry Joseph
If you could tell me how to go about this that would be great
As I really don't know where to begin as I thought exchange was tightly
integrate to its ad
And if that ad wasn't there then exchange would be useless

Thanks

Hi James

I've used the edb to pst and the attachements are missing for a year
I am going to look at mounting the edb as a restore and see if they are in
the old live environment

[Exchange] PCI Audit Failure Cookie Does Not Contain The "secure" Attribute port 443

2016-11-04 Thread Graeme Carstairs
Hi,

We have client that is currently undergoing PCI Audit, and they company
keeps flaggin up the following

Cookie Does Not Contain The "secure" Attribute port 443

If the associated risk of a compromised account is high, apply the "secure"
attribute to cookies and force all sensitive requests to be sent via HTTPS

This is on their OWA in Exchange 2013, my googling only finds how to set
this in OWA 2007 and 2010 by adding the follwoing into the web.config

I can only find mention that this is not needed in 2013 but I need to know
how to set it or how to explain to the PCI company that it is not needed in
2013, as 2013 has its own XSS protection.

Thanks

Graeme
