Well, thanks alot for your feedback, especially Dark pointing me to
the fabulous reaction time article. I will probably be going diff

the sounds, with 10 random guard sounds (i had to reset all of the

I can tell you now that the gun sound is really cheap and crappy, I have

but they will sound like a gun I think anyway.
I also have a load of sound libraries and misc sounds, some from games
 and
some I just pick up at random.
Honestly I forget where some of them came from.
there are at least 2 big folders that come from multipul sorces which I
 have
no knowledge of and they are just misc sounds.

 Hi,
I completed coding Level 1, although it's kinda simple, and just sapi,

too) I could have you pressing 10 keys at once to destroy a copter. I
used that command, (only 5) to perform a power jump to leap over a
stair. Once I complete everything, I'll add in the small details like
limits, times, all kinds of stuff to make it a bit more difficult.
Right now, it's basically doing what sapi says (jump, etc), but it'll
be more fun when I get sounds. Any ideas guys on how to improve it
(perhaps random deaths, etc, or health depletion timer (health goes
down every second), or something else?)
 I haven't started the 3D yet..but will
 Thanks.

Would it be possible to put the games you make into .exe files. I was
thinking that maybe it would make it easier to play the games by just being
able to install them and have them in a programs group, along with the
instructions, like other windows games such as sound RTS do.

Re: [Audyssey] SDM Update

2008-04-01 Thread Dark
Hi Aiden.

Personally, I have no problem with zip files at all, and often if I'm just
trying a short game I like a zip file sinse I don't have to muck about with
the add/remove programs if I decide I don't want to keep it.

If you really want a program group with instructions, just create
shortcuts and make a folder yourself I've already done this myself for
several games and imho it's not too much of a problem.

just my personal thoughts there, feel free to disagree.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] SDM Update

2008-03-30 Thread shaun everiss
what sort of guards?
tornts or what.
if its tornts you want I can make some, I actually have some I made for
x-sight, these things are mine, they were made for some foul mouthed enemies
though in one of x-sight's games I can probably give you allerts.
I have powerup sounds but I am not sure what I can get.
I may actually make a generic thing as well as the guard tornts.
where should I send things to?

Hi,
Sure guys. thanks.
Here are the sounds I need:
- Alert of a box
- Going from Normal to Super State (Power-Up)
- Guards
- Lava
- Alert of Stairs
- Jumping over stairs
- Landing on the ground
That's it for now.
Thanks.

The sounds you gave are plenty, Shaun. Thanks!
Hi,
Anyway, I finished the side scroller, although it still is a bit
boring. So once I add the sounds and smaller details, it seems it'll
be much more fun. I will work on the 3D hunt for the boss.

Re: [Audyssey] SDM Update

2008-03-30 Thread Dark
Hello ryan.

Your question got me interested, so I've consulted the fount of ineffable
wisdom known as wikipedia on this one, the artical on reaction time
found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaction_time#Types_of_RT_tasks

Interestingly enough, the average reaction time for a basic here sound-press
button test is apparently around the 0.15 seconds (or 150 milliseconds),
mark on Average. thinking in terms of games, and particularly the quick
reaction sterrio games like shoot da me, I'd take this as a base line, pluss
a few milliseconds for the player to process the sterrio direction of the
information.

so say a nice round figure like 0.2 seconds as an average challenge,
decrease this to 0.25 or 0.30 seconds for an easier opponent, and lower this
to the 0.150 mark for a tough opponent, (sinse the player stil has to
process the sound), and if you want to be really cruel go down to 0.130 or
maybe even 0.120 for some uba challenge!

One thing I remember about the previous versions of shoot da me is that I
found them slightly too easy, perhaps this type of info will let you
make a more balanced game, Also, I'm sorry but I did get interested in this
question as well hence the long and rambling post.

Beware the zero point Grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] SDM Update

2008-03-29 Thread Ryan Smith
Hi,
I completed coding Level 1, although it's kinda simple, and just sapi,
so I better find some sounds. Also, instead of double (or addition
too) I could have you pressing 10 keys at once to destroy a copter. I
used that command, (only 5) to perform a power jump to leap over a
I haven't started the 3D yet..but will
Thanks.

You could always give it to me and I could tell you where and what sounds you
need.
I can tell you now that the gun sound is really cheap and crappy, I have free
sounds for this game that may sound better, they are still low quality but they
will sound like a gun I think anyway.
I also have a load of sound libraries and misc sounds, some from games and some
I just pick up at random.
Honestly I forget where some of them came from.
there are at least 2 big folders that come from multipul sorces which I have no
knowledge of and they are just misc sounds.
