If this
gecko has lost so much weight that you are concerned about its health,
then I would do an acid fast stain. Crypto geckos look emaciated and have
thin tails.

I think I may have the reason as to why the vet has recommended against this method. I've also heard several different takes on using Pedialyte to re-hydrate, and have used Pedialyte several times myself with wild caught chameleons. The vet that I use has recommended Pedialyte

I've always kept my leos temps at at least 85F during the day, trying to keep
it at a good 88 if I can, I don't really see any reason to drop the temps
lower than the norm since it is battling parasites and trying to gain weight.

Thanks for your advice.
I did make it to the vet this afternoon. Fortunately "River" produced a fecal sample on the way that showed a couple of pinworms. However, the vet did not wish to treat for these until her physical condition had improved.
He recommended:
*A water soak

Very glad to hear that you got her to a vet quickly. and although parasites
is not a good thing, pinworms are generally relatively easy to rid off, so
hopefully
