Hey, a customer on a hosted server did this today:
sudo chown -R lighttpd /

You can imagine that things are a little borked. How do you fix this
with Gentoo?

your next easiest approach might be to invent a time machine... But

use 'lspci' to see the type and brand of your net device,
and then choose it in linux kernel!
also, you can compile it as a module or link it into the kernel!
