Hi...

I am using kde5 daily at work in a PC and a laptop, @ home in an other PC... It
is usable as long as you dont use kdepim / akonadi with e.g. mailing lists...
As soon as my count of Mails grow over some thousands, akonadi simply stops
working, that means is no longer fetching or displaying Mails... so yes, the
desktop is cool and stable pim is not really since some versions...

No, no, no! What they should do is use Microsoft's Sharepoint server

Great idea... ;-) I really can't understand why anyone would use a database as

But to be real: Why not use anything for akonadi/nepomuk that ist really
optimized for the purpose... Why not Solr or Elasticsearch... I mean: Nobody
really ever uses that crap for anything else than doing fulltext-search! As far
as i remember, even that purpose wasn't really very well done! Elasticsearch
with some indexers that push a plaintextversion of nearly every document-format
into the index and you will enjoy searches in millions of documents in nearly
no time... Using some tags and categories, you will have the perfect semantic
experience!

But the gains were there - search became slower, if it worked at all and

I can't really count how many times i simply deleted all the .config/akonadi

Ok, maybe, but it worked since every Version and just stopped because one ore
more developers simply decided to do things right!!!

No Problem in Gentoo, simply mask and downgrade kdepim-meta... I had more
problems at work with Kubuntu! With KDE4.10.1 everything works as expected...

But this is just a gnome-like-behavior... The developers simply don't really
care what the users want or need... i really never heard of anybody saying: Oh

Therefor i installed gentoo on it - as it simply has more possibilities than
raspian or others.

I have an older FritzCardUSB aroud her and want to use that one to run
capisuite directly on the Raspberry (i wrote some kind of messaging-server in
nodeJS...) to store calls and faxes... if this is impossible i would like to
use USBIP on the pi and use the FritzCard on my other gentoo Server... The Pi
sits right left to the o2-Box and the Server around 20 meters and 3 rooms
away...

I would like to know which drivers i would need to run the fritzcard? Becouse
fcusb is no longer in portage and enabling several isdn-kernel-modules did not
work.

has someone a similar setup or can help me with the problem?

thanks!

triple-booted to Android, Bodhi (with E17) or KDE couple of weeks ago.
How it was done is documented in the current edition of Linux Format

I really don't think there should ba any issues with mainboards that are

[gentoo-user] gentoo as wlan-repeater...

2011-11-10 Thread Jens Reinemuth

Hi list,

i currently live in an appartment that has a very lousy
wlan-access-point for the people. There is an AP with dd-wrt and
WPA2-PSK... currently i only have wlan at the window in the kitchen and
my gentoo-pc which stands about 5m away from that does not even see the
ap while scanning.

As i also have a gentoo netbook, i thought about using this one as a
kind of repeater for the wlan.

Both have ath5k-cards, on the netbook i use wicd (as it changes the
networks more often...) on the PC i hardcoded the access-data in
wpa_supplicant.conf (as the ath5k is kind of interim-solution until
our house is built and i will have real wired network there)

Has anyone allready set up something like that? Which settings are
necessary, is the ath5k able to be used as repeater (as it has to be
client and ap at once...)?

The alternatives are a old Fritzbox 7140, a Netgear router and 2
Fonera-Boxes (which all are packed in boxes and wait until the house is
ready).

So i really would prefer the solution with using the gentoo-netbook
instead of the routers...

Jens

Hi...

all you mentioned is really true... i don't care really much for the
security as i don't provide the AP, i just want to connect to it ;-)

i just want to make the signal - which is ok at the kitchen window - a
little bit stronger, so my pc (about 3m away) can connect to it.

I found some howtos about this issue (mainly debian) in which it ist
described to split your interface in 2 virtual interfaces
(wlan0:repeater and wlan0:ap)... You connect with wlan0:repeater to the
AP of the WLAN and provide another access point via wlan0:ap...

After this, you have to forward your traffic in both directions.

Just wanted to know if this is going to work on a gentoo-box with
ath5k... And how!? Simple iptables, or do i have to work out some
bridging stuff?

If i had to provide the main-access-point, i think i would have chosen
freifunk or something like that, as the appartment is in the plain
country, no houses around, even if some hackers try to connect, you
would see every car, every person that is in the radius of 2km around
the house ;-) And even if someone really manages to connect - so what!?
There are as many court judgments which say you are responsible for ALL
traffic via your wifi as the ones saying you are not! I have a legal
expenses insurance... Aren't we all hackers?

As long as german politicians think (and insist that) it's legal to
install trojans on computers, i think it's legal to share my bandwith!

I installed a kernel with genkernel and its corresponding initramfs, but after
