This is maybe the PyQt issue I did not remember. So I think it is
worth a try. If this is the case portage tries to pull qt-4.4.3
because it is needed by PyQt-4.4 plus the qt split ebuilds which are
needed by some other packages. So putting versions of PyQt and sip in
package.keywords which depemd on qt split ebuilds should solve it. If
I remember right I have this entries in my package.keywords too.
Probably you need oneshot for PyQt and sip too.

I've found another way around it on my fresh test system. I had a working
KDE-3.5 system installed on it and upgraded it to version 4, no problem.
Then I tried to install hplip on it and got the same blockers again. By a
process of elimination I found I had to put two entries in package.use:

=dev-python/qscintilla-python-2.1 -qt4
=x11-libs/qscintilla-2.1-r1 -qt4

Then I could install hplip as well.

Now I'm back on the original system, and putting Alex's package.keywords
entries in I find I still have the blockers; his solution isn't working for
me, even after reinstalling PyQt4 and sip. Neither is my own on this
system. But then I'm getting what looks like nonsense from equery, thus:

# equery h qt4
[ Searching for USE flag qt4 in all categories among: ]
 * installed packages
[I--] [ ] dev-python/qscintilla-python-2.1 (0)
[I--] [ ] net-print/hplip-2.8.6b (0)
[I--] [ ] x11-libs/qscintilla-2.1-r1 (0)
[I--] [ ] app-text/poppler-bindings-0.8.7 (0)

...but equery u qscintilla and equery u qscintilla-python both return this
line:

 - - qt4 : Adds support for the Qt GUI/Application Toolkit version 4.x

So unless I'm misunderstanding the output of equery as well, the qt4 USE
flag both is and is not in use in the two scintilla packages.

After writing the above, I uninstalled hplip and poppler-bindings, then
reinstalled poppler-bindings and ran revdep-rebuild. That hasn't helped
either.

Why is this nonsense? equery h shows which installed packages have the

use flags are set or unset for the given package.

Please post again the output from emerge -pvutND world but attach it in
a file so it doesn't get crippled by the mail program.

Also what I have seen from your previous tree output is that you are
trying to do many things at one time. Upgrading to kde4 changing and
changing many use flags. This makes debugging very hard. Try to do only
one thing at a time

[gentoo-user] Multiple instances of PyQt4

2009-07-21 Thread Alex Schuster
Hi there!

My @world update shows this problem:

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

dev-python/PyQt4:0

('ebuild', '/', 'dev-python/PyQt4-4.4.4-r5', 'merge') pulled in by
=dev-python/PyQt4-4.4.0[X] required by ('installed', '/', 'kde-
base/plasma-workspace-4.2.4', 'nomerge')
dev-python/PyQt4[X] required by ('installed', '/', 'media-
sound/picard-0.11', 'nomerge')
=dev-python/PyQt4-4.4 required by ('ebuild', '/', 'dev-
python/qscintilla-python-2.3.2-r2', 'merge')
(and 1 more)

('ebuild', '/', 'dev-python/PyQt4-4.4.4-r2', 'merge') pulled in by
=dev-python/PyQt4-4.4.4-r1[dbus,qt3support,svg,webkit,X] required by
('ebuild', '/', 'kde-base/pykde4-4.2.4', 'merge')
(and 4 more)

I would like to understand where the problem is. The bottom says that
pykde4-4.2.4 needs at least PyQt4-4.4.4-r2. This is fine, I can see the
corresponding DEPEND line in the pykde4-4.2.4 ebuild.

The top list tells that:
  plasma-workspace-4.2.4 needs PyQt4-4.4.0,
  picard-0.11needs PyQt4 and
  qscintilla-python-2.3.2-r2 needs PyQt4-4.4

Why then is PyQt4-4.4.4-r5 needed? -r2 should satisfy these needs, too,
doesn't it? Or is the problem the 'and 1 more' line? How would I find out
which other package would need -r5 then? And why would the other line be
listed then? I don't get this.

I grepped for PyQt4-4.4.4-r5 through all ebuilds, it appeared only in the
PyQt4-4.4.4-r5.ebuild itself.

This is not an important problem - I think I can unmask some stuff and it
will work. But wanted to cut the amount of masking down a little, and I'm
just curious why this happens.

So, thanks for any insights, if want to practice your portage-fu, but don't
bother if you have more important things to do, I'm fine :)

There was issues with pykde4 recently resulting in these blockers. Easiest way
out is to remove all local masks you might have for PyQt and pykde4, unmerge
both and emerge -uND world. Let portage sort it out.

IIRC you can get by by just unmerging one of them and it works. But, I'm too
lazy now to figure out which way round it goes, and memory ain't what it used

(-qt3%), which is a pretty hard exclusion, but only on hplip - not
necessarily on things it depends on.

if I add -X to USE, the qt dependency goes away, but I try to avoid
package-specific use flags if I can help it.

If you mean putting package-specific USE flags in /etc/make.conf, you can
avoid it thus:

If /etc/portage/package.use is a file, do this:
'echo net-print/hplip -X /etc/portage/package.use'

If instead it's a directory, do this:
'echo net-print/hplip -X /etc/portage/package.use/net-print'

On the other hand, if you don't like these flags at all, I can't help.

[gentoo-user] PyQt4-4.5 and pykde4-4.2.4 blockers

2009-06-10 Thread Alan McKinnon
Today's sync includes PyQt4-4.5 which is blocked by pykde4-4.2.4 (incompatible

 Hi there!

 ('ebuild', '/', 'kde-base/pykde4-4.2.4', 'merge')
 (and 4 more)

I would like to understand where the problem is. The bottom says that
pykde4-4.2.4 needs at least PyQt4-4.4.4-r2. This is fine, I can see the
corresponding DEPEND line in the pykde4-4.2.4 ebuild.

 The top list tells that:
   plasma-workspace-4.2.4 needs PyQt4-4.4.0,
   picard-0.11needs PyQt4 and
   qscintilla-python-2.3.2-r2 needs PyQt4-4.4

Why then is PyQt4-4.4.4-r5 needed? -r2 should satisfy these needs, too,
doesn't it? Or is the problem the 'and 1 more' line? How would I find out
which other package would need -r5 then? And why would the other line be
listed then? I don't get this.

I grepped for PyQt4-4.4.4-r5 through all ebuilds, it appeared only in the
 PyQt4-4.4.4-r5.ebuild itself.

This is not an important problem - I think I can unmask some stuff and it
will work. But wanted to cut the amount of masking down a little, and I'm
 just curious why this happens.

So, thanks for any insights, if want to practice your portage-fu, but
 don't
bother if you have more important things to do, I'm fine :)

There was issues with pykde4 recently resulting in these blockers. Easiest
 way
out is to remove all local masks you might have for PyQt and pykde4, unmerge
both and emerge -uND world. Let portage sort it out.

IIRC you can get by by just unmerging one of them and it works. But, I'm too
lazy now to figure out which way round it goes, and memory ain't what it
 used
 to be.

PyQt4-4.5.1 ebuild was removed from the portage tree over the weekend.
I had only that specific version unmasked (IIRC kde4 dependencies?),
and ran into a similar(?) situation yesterday. Maybe you hit the same?
(Similar situation == portage surprises and wants to downgrade PyQt4
to 4.4.4-something.)

No worries, IIRC I just unmasked 4.5.2 and everything has been smiles
and sunshine again afterward.

/usr/bin/python is symlinked to python2.5 to my system too and nothing seems
to be wrong... so this is done by the ebuild. AFAIK python versions are
multi-slotted, e.g. I have versions 2.4.4-r8 and 2.5.1-r5 currently

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in the
dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can not be
installed simultaneously.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page
or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

I need poppler-0.10.3 to get around the qt circular dependency problem.
Lower versions of poppler and poppler-bindings are not installed:

catherine ~ # emerge -pvC poppler poppler-bindings

These are the packages that would be unmerged:

 app-text/poppler
selected: 0.10.3
   protected: none
 omitted: none

 app-text/poppler-bindings
selected: 0.10.3
   protected: none
 omitted: none

'Selected' packages are slated for removal.
'Protected' and 'omitted' packages will not be removed.

I've tried every trick I can think of to get around this and nothing has
worked. Please help me.

I main underlying reason seems to be that Qt now comes as split-ebuilds and
Peter has some monolithic ones installed. It's similar to migrating KDE to
split-ebuilds, but on a much smaller scale. Unfortunately there's no easy way
to automate this in an ebuild, that would require several new unrelated
packages replacing one big one, portage doesn't support that kind of thing.
So one has to do it manually, and deal with the resulting recdep-rebuild
issues as well

Hi,
I'm not used to seeing all the additional messages below the
blockage indication. Can someone possibly help me understand how to
read this?

Are there really application packages that cannot be installed at
the same or is only about qt and possibly the USE flags I've got?

I tried removing qjackctl (the only world package I spotted in the

   What to try next?

Thanks,

What you supplied should that there's trouble with some qt packages.
Most likely you have two packages that have conflicting needs with
regard to qt, but without the actual output we cannot help you.
you're right, I missed some importnat info... sorry about that.

so, do I have to remove old packages?

Cheers,

You seem to have conflicting requirements for qt-gui

What do you have in make.conf and package.use regarding qt packages and those
USE flags? Do you have any qt packages in your world file (you should not have
for average use)?

[gentoo-user] hplip upgrade wants qt in spite of USE flags

2008-01-02 Thread Chris Bare
I'm trying to run my normal upgrade on a gnome-only system. It looks like the
2.7 version of hplip wants qt even though I have the following in my make.conf
USE:

-kde -qt -qt3 -qt4

Re: [gentoo-user] Trying KDE-4

Please post again the output from emerge -pvutND world but attach it in

Attached.

Also what I have seen from your previous tree output is that you are
trying to do many things at one time. Upgrading to kde4 changing and
changing many use flags. This makes debugging very hard. Try to do only
 one thing at a time

That's only because one thing leads to another. All I wanted to do was to
install KDE-4; everything else I've tried has been to enable that. Of
course I do try to do only one thing at a time - I had half a lifetime of
debugging of one kind or another.

I started by running autounmask, as suggested by Neil B; that unmasked 81
packages. Then I tried to update world - 82 times: one for each other
package that needed unmasking. At the end of that I had all the packages
unmasked that were required for an upgrade to KDE-4, but I also had the
blocker that started this conversation. I've been trying to find the
conflict in dependencies ever since, with your help - thanks again.

Here's another titbit:

$ equery d '=x11-libs/qt-4.4.0_alpha:4'
[ Searching for packages depending on =x11-libs/qt-4.4.0_alpha:4... ]
app-text/poppler-bindings-0.8.7 (qt4? =x11-libs/qt-4.3:4)
