(or rc-update add webservice.sh default)

world (isn't this mensioned in the upgrade guide for gcc?). If
you still have gcc-3.3.6 installed on your system, you won't have a
problem from rebooting (as far as I know).

You're sure you haven't installed x11-themes/gnome-themes explicitly
before? Send output of:
grep gnome /var/lib/portage/world
