I have a short question.
I use two geotiff stores in GeoServer and I am wondering if those tiffs are
also accessible/downloadable from outside.
I don't want that. It is OK for now that other users than my own
application are using my WMS, but they shouldn't have access to my source
tiff.

You're right my data is static and as a test I'm already using the
shapefile option.
Tiling them takes only a few hours, so I'll stick to the shapefiles.

What are the best practices for performance when using a large PostGIS

I have imported the OSM data for The Netherlands in PostGIS v2.
I have several workspaces in GeoServer that are for small parts of The
Netherlands.
I want to add OSM data for that region to my workspace.
What is best
I had the same problems because by default the settings are saved in the
temp folder of Tomcat.
On rebooting Tomcat clears this folder.
You need to set the GEOWEBCACHE_CACHE_DIR variable to point to another
folder.
This will also stop the need the reseed the tiles after every week.
Here's some

When I start seeding the process is very quickly finished, about 5
minutes. Even when I seed to zoomlevel 14.

I have several questions.
First about Oracle JRE. It seems to be quite difficult to install a package
for Oracle JRE and my server is now using OpenJDK v1.6.0.24
I have a test server (Ubuntu) with GeoServer 2.1 and PostGIS v1.5
I also have a large aerial photo in ECW format.
I've converted this ECW file to GeoTIFF and used gdal_retile to create
tiles.
I use the pyramid plug-in to show the data.
Today I have created a second server with GeoServer 2.2 and
/zonnekaart.php
It's all in Dutch, but you'll get the idea ;)
