"talk" is an awful protocol in general, multiple TCP and UDP connections
involved. This makes packet filtering a mess. Makes FTP (also a messy
protocol, i.e. ftpdata) look like a walk in the park.
Excellent book to read is: "Building Internet Firewalls" by Chapman
and Zwicky. Pages 270-272
Thanks - great presentation!
Would you be willing to give it at the LBS on 29 Apr, or may we snag
it as a part of our presentations on the "What is Linux" track (with
acknowlegements, of course)?

Hi,
So you have users *on* the beowulf cluster that want to talk to other
internal users outside of the clusters firewall?
No, my problem was that I couldn't use talk _on_ the firewall. Not through it,
just both users on the same host, and talk to each other- this would be the
first step.
Does anyone have any tips for linux on a sparc5?
OK, here's some background:
It has 96M of RAM and 3 external drives. The internal drive is only a
510M so I'm pretty much the whole install on the externals. I got through
the install ok and it booted up but it the machine locks up with scsi bus

Hey all,
I just discovered a feature that XFree has, totally by accident. At
least, it's configured this way on RedHat.
If you hit Shift-Insert, it will insert the primary selection buffer at
the current cursor location. Cool! :) Now I don't have to struggle with
a two-button mouse
I upgraded from SuSE 6.2 to SuSE 6.3(intel) about a month ago and I
have a couple of video issues (which appear to be related to horizontal
sync).
First, mostly in Netscape my text cursor shows up as just a couple of
flashing dots, barely perceptable.
Secondly, when I log out of KDE, instead

You should probably get a new file for tzconfig, and set it as a default. Well,

Must be. It doesn't work with my kvt or whatever the name of the kde term is.

incompatibilities ? Will something else go wrong ? Can I log in as KDEuser

I haven't tried it yet, but I really doubt you would have any
incompatibilities. This is just not that world. I know for sure that kde stores
all its files
What problems am I asking for if I try to have both KDE and GNOME installed at

What kind of sparc is it? You'll notice on the Linux distrubutions that
Linux isn't supported on the Sparc 5 - 170 and I've had very similiar
experiences while loading on this particular platform. Here's the funny
thing, I put the drives in a Sparc 5/85 and loaded Linux without a problem
