Speaking of stuff laying around... Does anyone keep a repository of old
stuff? I've got a few cables and other little things that I keep meaning
to toss. But, they continue to stay in the box just in case. It would be
nice to be able to take them somewhere that they might be used by anyone

Has anyone gotten further information about the Give 1 Get 1 program on the
One Laptop Per Child site? I know they have a reminder program to that's
supposed to start sending out emails before Nov 12th. I'm just curious if
they've actually activated this yet.
I agree that the main reason to get something like this would be for
portability. With kids in middle and high school, it would be really
convenient to have something that is light and easy to carry around. There
are plenty of times when we are between activities and near enough to a

I'm trying to update a chart of simple commands, using several flavors of
Linux. I'm familiar enough the Red Hat and SuSE to get those done quickly.
But, now I'm trying to install Debian (which I've never used before). It isn't
going as easily as the others, and I'm trying to figure out if
I just got around to splitting my large ISO image file, and put it onto the
portable USB drive. How do I rejoin it to ensure I still have a valid ISO
image? Does cat do the trick?

Can anyone suggest somewhere in the greater Southern New Hampshire area that
can perform a simple laptop repair? I've got an older HP Pavilion that I
just finished loading Linux onto. It was working great until the dog ran
by, and yanked the power cable out. The connection is now loose and
I'm trying to physically carry a large (4.5GB) iso file from home, over to a
coworker's office. Although I can burn the image back to a DVD, I get an
error that the file is too large when I try a straight copy to the DVD. So,
I hooked up a FIRELITE usb disk, and did a copy to a directory
