In practice (rather than reality :) ), I found the girls disappearing
into the stays. Since I make only my 19th c stays, the 18th c stays
needed help, hence the roll/sock/wossname!

I've seen plenty of self-fringed bodice ruffles, but can't remember
any skirts having them. Usually they are on the straight, so that the
fringe has stripes. It's a really cool effect!

Yep, that curved back seam _should_ be a real seam, but in my project,
it was a falsie to make the coat look plausible :) It tapered to
nothing at its termination in the armhole.
