Steven,
Thanks
Nancy,
Thanks for your post. I don't think that the FILE^DIE
and UPDATER^DIE will balk as partial matches. In
other words, if I tell it XUPROG, it does not get
confused with XUPROGMODE. I know that interactive
fileman will ask about this, but I have already used
it for looking up menu options,
There's actually a flag to control this behavior. If you look at the

the O (for Only) flag:

I am hitting a DINUM error message again that I don't
understand. I know that a DINUMed error is when a
user is trying to add multiple records when there is
supposed to be only one entry.
But I am getting this when I try to add keys to a
user. There are supposed to be multiple entries here,
so
Wait... by calling UPDATE with the internal value for the .01 field,
you won't be performing the .01 field's input transform that created
DINUM. So, it looks like you have to use the inbound IEN array to
specify a sub-file record number for the new record that is the same
value as the .01

Could this be the issue?
XUPROG and XUPROGMODE both start the same, so if you put that you want to give
someone the XUPROG key, it will want to know if it is XUPROG or XUPROGMODE
you are talking about. So maybe you are tapping into something designed to
prevent confusion about that sort of
Sorry for my earlier post. I saw later that it was all sorted out and I am
