Dear Safranim, Can anybody tell me if they use www.encyclopedia.com/ as a reliable and authoritative web site for elementary or middle school students to conduct their research? Any expert advice pertaining to this age group would help from teachers or librarians and we are wondering if other Jewish day schools use this. Please reply to me off of the listserv. [ha-Safran] OPALS versus Destiny
My fellow dear colleagues, Since our school is seriously considering switching from Athena to a new OPAC and doing a complete migration of records, we are wondering what the strengths and weaknesses are for OPALS and Destiny when they are used in elementary school libraries. Both look like great programs to usebut I would appreciate some feedback off of the listserv with your experiences or user experiences with each of these programs by next Monday morning. I would also like to know how easy or difficult this transfer was from Athena to a new OPAC. [ha-Safran] Responses to the Technology Questions for Jewish Day Schools and Hebrew Schools from Preschool to Sixth Grade
Dear Safranim and Safraniyot, I am very grateful for your responses to my technology questions with the school library I work at. If you have more feedback to give me before Monday to answer my questions, that would Also be helpful. The next steps are to actually implement some of your helpful suggestions with the staff and school. I was amazed that within less than one day I received responses from day schools in New York that are 3,000 miles away and in Israel which is about halfway around the world from California. It is great that we have an online worldwide community to support other librarians who work in Jewish settings. [ha-Safran] Technology in Preschool to Sixth Grade Jewish Day School Library
Dear Safranim and Safraniyot, We are looking to buy newer technology to use with students from our preschool up to sixth grade in the library I work at, I would like to find answers to these questions by next Monday (May 8, 2017) for our school from librarians and people in similar situations (like your Jewish day school or Hebrew school goes to up to fifth or eighth grade). We serve roughly around 180 students with 40 faculty members. 1) Does your school use Apple TV or a Smartboard in your library? If so, how do you use it for lessons or your population? 2) Does your school use EBooks with students? How is this helpful or not? 3) Does your school use any subscription databases that you find helpful? 3) What other types of technology would you recommend we use in our school library?
