[hlds] TF2 MvM Round Configs

2012-09-02 Thread Lord_Jeremy Xavier
So as far as I known, the idea is that we can use the tf_mvm_missioncycle.res
file to set up custom MvM modes. Has anyone done this successfully yet? I know
it was very broken at the launch and after the first couple patches. Did this
functionality ever get fixed?

I'm looking for a way to make it possible for admins and possibly players on my
server to choose a custom mission layout for the MvM maps. Ideally, something
like nominate/RTV that would change not only the map but also the popfile. One
of my community members told me they played on a server that had round mode
voting, but it seemed to crash a lot.

Yeah I've been having the same issue. After Fletcher put out the 1 minute
warning I started launching my update script every 10 seconds until it noticed
the update. And yet I still haven't even been able to download a single file.

I'm talking about as assets (large stuff) move to a completed state,
background update the clients leading up to release and have those things
encrypted, then day of release just download the rest and decrpt the previous
assets. I'm sure this could cut the package size in half or less, making
download sessions way shorter and in turn delivering it faster. Pretty much
the same thing as pre-loading a pre-ordered game, except for one that is
 already released.

It seems to me the technology is already there?

Re: [hlds] Mandatory Team Fortress 2 Update Released

2012-07-05 Thread Lord_Jeremy Xavier
I know they're PST. I was thinking that it would be helpful for me and I'm sure
many other operators if the updates went live earlier in the day. Heck, they
could even fire it off when they come in at 9AM (PST). Personally my schedule
is such that I'm frequently unavailable around 6PM PST, not to mention that I
run east cost servers and 9PM EST is precisely when most of my playerbase is
looking to play TF2.

I'm not trying to give Valve a hard time. I'm trying to advocate a change that
would give me and my regulars significantly less of a hard time.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know of any reason why server updates couldn't be
made available some hours before the clients are instructed to update? Such a
practice would at least give the operators a chance to take care of the update
before the horde comes clamoring and complaining.

Of course it dependes on timezone. Now with a dead serious face, I must agree

Any warning is better than no warning at all, nothing like that adrenalin
rush when you find out Valve is going to be Breaking your Shit ™ in 15
 minutes.

Though after years of this, everyone should be used to it. Just imagine if
Sourcemod wasn’t run by such resilient developers.

 Cheers,

I love the 16 minute warning between update coming and mandatory update
released. Some might say it's pointless to announce update coming then
release it in that span. Some may say why not just send the impending mand.
update notice in the morning or yesterdayas to give enough time to actually
know to be ready to reboot my server or make sure it took properly
I say no. Nonsense. Why be prepared for anything in the world of valve3
