Hi Jeff,
Office has viewing programs that allow you to read Excel, Word, & Power
Point files, but that's all you can do is read them. You can get them here:
www.microsoft.com/downloads
This what they're called:
ExcelViewer
PowerPointViewer

Adrian,
Okay, thanks. I thought in some past versions of JAWS we could also jump to
landmarks using the semicolon or something else. I'm working on a Beta web
site where the developers are using a landmark rather than a region for
parts, and they asked. I recommended they stick with regions or
Hi, Dave.
I believe a landmark is the same as a region. The shortcut for "region" is "r."
for those who aren't familiar with the "r" navigation command, it's extremely
useful. For example, press "r" until you hit "main region" or something
similar, and you skip over a lot of boilerplate.
I agree, and that's why I have Jarte.

Adrian, actually, .doc was not in the list, but .docx was in the list,
and it's a .docx file I'm trying to read.
Wordpad does open the file, but it's got these backslashes at the

Yes. However, people who consider this method should understand it increases
the risk of data theft. Security experts recommend, instead, use of an
encryption program. In my case, I prefer to enter the log-in info every time,
except on websites where I don't care about my security.
Seems like a lot of work, especially if you have to do it every time.

Just wondering...Didn't there use to be a quick key command to jump from one
web land mark to another? Was that removed some time in the past?

When you list other file types, are you saying .doc was not a listed extension?
Or are you saying there are too many backslashes in the opened document? The
way to eliminate them is to search for backslash and replace either with
