No, it is not that string on weblate. What I mean is that, when I
click on the Help > Get Help Online menu item, the following webpage
opens:

https://hub.libreoffice.org/forum/?LOlocale=zh-CN

And then it was immediately redirected to another link which may
have been defined in somewhere else other then weblate. I remember
some years ago there was a email requesting that the l10n team
provide the support link for their language, and we have provided
https://bbs.libreofficechina.org/. However, now we want to switch to
https://zh-cn.libreoffice.org/get-help/community-support/ as it
provides more support channels.

Ok, thanks, let me research on that, and I'll come back to you.

So the hub is managed by the infra team, so I asked Guilhem to change
the link. I'll let you know when it's done.

It's now done, thanks to Guilhem :)
Cheers

For me, the weblate instance is fast when opening the pages and even

Not sure whether it's on the database side or the server code

Re: [libreoffice-documentation] Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Translation status update for Calc function wiki articles

2021-12-13 Thread Kevin Suo
In my opinion, those lengthy Funtions docs should be included in the
online/builtin help. If the current Help is not complete/accurate or is missing
examples, then we should revise the Help, not putting then in a new Wiki. It is
fine the Calc guide can reference to the Online Help.

For us, our Simplified Chinese team only have very few people doing the
translation and we simply have no time translating the wiki, especially if the
content is duplicated.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] The word "common" in Chinese conversion dialog

2021-08-26 Thread Kevin Suo

As explained in the Help page:

*"Translate common terms*
Converts words with two or more characters that are in the list of
common terms. After the list is scanned, the remaining text is converted
character by character."

The "Common Terms" list can be found on the UI if you open "Tools >
Language > Chinese Conversion" where there is a "Edit Terms" button.
Clicking on the button will open an "Edit Dictionary" dialog where you
can define your Common Terms.

For instance, if I've defined the following in the Common Terms list:
中国 --> 美国
(meaning: China --> United States)

Then if I type (or copy paste) the word 中国 into Writer and check the
"Translate common terms" opinion in the Chinese Conversion dialog, the
conversion result would be "美国".

That is to say, the "Common Terms" means the List of Common Terms
dictionary you have defined by yourself (which is blank by default). In
other words, it has nothing to do with "shared".

Please correct me if I am wrong.

In other words, is the meaning "translate mutually shared terms",

As you can see, there are many possible meanings:

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] New numerals

2020-11-23 Thread Kevin Suo
And just for your information, I have just now filed a bug report re the
bullets and numbering dropdown list, which is related to the issue I
mentioned in the email blow, see:

https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138430

*From:* Kevin Suo [mailto:suokunl...@126.com]
*Sent:* Monday, November 23, 2020, 11:23 PM
*To:* l10n@global.libreoffice.org
*Subject:* [libreoffice-l10n] New numerals

Maybe you mean the defined bullets and numbering syles as shown in the
xml files here:

https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/tree/i18npool/source/localedata/data

You need to make the change in the source code: clone the code, build
it, make the changes, then rebuild so see the effect. Before doing
that, I suggest you file an enhancement request on bugziila and cc
your language team members and seek their review and approval. If you
are not able to do the changes in source code, you may download a copy
of that xml file and make changes in the file directly, then upload
the new file to that bugzilla report and asking someone else to commit.

You may take a look at the change log for zh_CN locale for reference:

https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/log/i18npool/source/localedata/data/zh_CN.xml

Best regards,

Kevin Suo

2. On Pootle, I was able to manage the permission of the language team, but
there seems to be no such feature on Weblate. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Hi Andika,

I don't think Pootle has the feature to make request to join a team. You need
to apply proper permissions mannually to user frottle in pootle.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Pootle Server in Native Language

2018-02-14 Thread Kevin Suo
It works now.

And I am trying to revising the translations for pootle itself, to fix some
errors and finish the untranslated strings. Do we need to wait for pootle for a
new release to make the new translations shown, or can we do it on TDF side by
fetching the new po files directly?

[libreoffice-l10n] Pootle Server in Native Language

2018-02-13 Thread Kevin Suo

Hi,

The pootle server codes in github indicates that it supports many other
languages in the UI, but when I open the TDF Pootle Server, it's always in
English. Could someone investigate? I want it to show as Simplified Chinese
(zh_CN) UI if the browser language is in in Simplified Chinese.

This is a "regression", in previous pootle versions it did show Chinese UI.

This is important, as currently I am trying to gather the people from some of
the "minority" nationalities here in China (Uighur, Mongolian etc) to help
translating LibreOffice into their native language. For them, they may speek
good Chinese, but they may not understand English. If the pootle UI can display
as Chinese, I can guide them through to add "Simplified Chinese" in the
"Alternative Source Languages" list, so that they can start translating using
Chinese as reference language.

Confirmed it affects Simplified Chinese UI.

In fact there are many other strings not localized in 100% pootle ones, for

Can someone confirm it and maybe commit a fix?

I think it is better up to the localizer to translate this help text according

The help text for MIDB (
https://help.libreoffice.org/Calc/Text_Functions#MIDB) says this:

MIDB

Returns a text string of a DBCS text. The parameters specify the
starting
position and the number of characters.

Syntax

MIDB(Text; Start; Number_bytes)

Text is the text containing the characters to extract.

Start is the position of the first character in the text to extract.

Number_bytes specifies the number of characters MIDB will return from
text,
in bytes.

Example

=MIDB(office;2;2) returns ff.

But office is not a string written in a double byte character set
(DBCS,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DBCS), so the example is not helpful for
the
main use of the function.

There should primarily be an example with a string in a language that
actually uses a double byte character set (DBCS), like Chinese. And
then
the example would show that only 1 character is returned when asking
for 2
bytes, i.e. the number of characters returned will be *half* of the
number
of bytes asked for. It should also be noted that if you ask for 3
bytes,
you get 1 character, etc.

The given example only shows the rather special case when you are *not*
giving the function a DBCS string; in this case the number of
characters
returned is the *same* as the number of bytes.

Secondly, the sentence Number_bytes specifies the number of characters
MIDB will return from text, in bytes is not very clear, because the
number
does *not* specify the number of characters. The fact is that if you
feed
the function a string in a single byte character set (SBCS,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SBCS), such as office, the number of
bytes
is the *same* as the number of characters. If you feed the function a
string in a double byte character set (DBCS), such as a string of
Chinese
characters, the number of bytes is *double* the amount of characters.

I don't know if this is the right place to report this problem.

The problem is probably also known already, and I kind of expect to get
the
reply oh yeah, we know, the help is a big mess and really needs
improvement.. ;-) But maybe I am wrong, so I am reporting it anyway.

Hi Kevin,

well at the moment this is a test and a proof of concept. My initial idea
behind these translations and templates were that only the English page has to
be updated and then all corresponding language pages get updated automatically.

If you do want to see the actual status of this experiment,
watchhttps://wiki.documentfoundation.org/User:Dennisroczek/releaseplanAs you
can see, not every stuff is working correctly. Feel free to improve the
situation as I don't know when I will enough time to finish this experiment. At
least I can say, that this is theoretical working but needs the last bugs
resolved before rolling out.

To answer your question: the dateformat template doesn't have any effect on the
zh-hans releaseplan page as this parameter is never called. This is another
reason why I started this experiment
:-)

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] German Table of Contents

2014-06-16 Thread Kevin Suo

Hi Jay Philips,

I see Table of Contents is in English also in 4.3b2 Chinese UI (I am
one of the Simplified Chinese translation member).

It may be because of this string:
sw/source/core/uibase/utlui.po
RID_SW_SHELLRES STR_TOC string.text
Comment #: 4AjGE

That string need re-translated for LibreOffice 4.3, and at the time
4.3.0.0 beta2 was released if that string was not translated, of cause
it will be in English.

I see from pootle that string has already been translated to german now:
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/zh_CN/libo_ui/translate/#search=Table
of Contentssfields=source,targetsoptions=exact

So I think it will be incorporated in the next 4.3 build. So it's safe
to close that bug as RESOLVED FIXED.

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Language names should be in the target language chars

2014-04-10 Thread Kevin Suo
Does the list really need to be translated afresh for each release?!!?
Surely once done the list stays much the same except for 'new'
languages
that have been added?

Usually it's not needed for each release to translate the strings, but for each
locale the localers are translating the language strings to their own
languages, which is a waste of our time and meaningless but adding trouble.

However, there may be unusual cases that the old strings need retranslating?
For zh-cn I am sure that it was 100% complete translation in 3.x, but when 4.1
was released there become many untranslated strings. And even worse, in 4.2
there are even more, even if that string was already translated in 4.1. (Maybe
it's because of the .src to .ui change? Or because ~ABC to _ABC? )

Concerning the language names issue, what I am doing recently is revising the
language names to english-and-target strings in zh-cn UI. I believe when
finished it would look professional, fresh, and meaningful.

I have already changed ZH-HANS and ZH-TW to target names. Only few people
would know ZH-HANS stands for simplified Chinese.

I even dont know most of the others AN AR AST BE BG BN BRX CA CA-VAL

MR NL NO OC OM PA PT PT-BR RO RU

[libreoffice-l10n] Re: Pootle: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get_absolute_url'

2014-03-29 Thread Kevin Suo

Hi all,

I fixed the problem by doing the following:

* On this page:
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/zh_CN/
it shows LibreOffice 4.2 – UI was last modified by anonymous
user. I guess this may be caused by a non-complete data transfer when I
was translating.

* Then I go to this direct link
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/zh_CN/libo_ui/translate/scaddins/
from my firefox history and modified a string.

* When refresh
https://translations.documentfoundation.org/zh_CN/
the anonymous user tag was corrected to my name.

* The error message does not appear again.

Thanks!

 Hi Kevin,
your updates, along with all others, have now been pushed to the git
repository. That doesn't mean they will appear in our website right
away, but they're much closer to that now.
Someone in our zh_cn website team has updated the zh_cn.php lang file
and made a pull request here on Mar 18:
https://github.com/tdf/cms-code/pull/11
We hope that is the right place to make a request. He did it by editing
the zh_cn.php file manually based on the po file in pootle, not using a
convert script. Until now seems the request has not yet been accepted,
no translation updates are appearing on the website.

I am confused that why it is so difficult for a change in the website
translation to take effect. Maybe it's better to directly edit the php
array on github, not using a po file on pootle?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi all,

I have made many zh_CN translation suggestions for 4.2 UI. Would
someone have the administrative rights to review accept my
suggestions? I'm 90% sure about my translation accuracy.

By the way, for this error report: (as discussed in another email
titled _[libreoffice-l10n] [pocheck][n-z] errors in 4.2 (errors
causing runtime problems)_

Pocheck error report for # zh-CN #
Style name translations must be unique --- See STR_POOLCOLL_*
Duplicated translations in file sw/source/ui/utlui.po

In the Writer styles, there is the string Heading, and within
Heading there is a Title.

poolfmt.src STR_POOLCOLL_HEADLINE_BASE string.text
sw/source/ui/utlui.po - poolfmt.src STR_POOLCOLL_DOC_TITEL string.text

In the previous translation both of the are translated as ??. Since
style names should be unique,

Heading should be ??,
Title should be ??? (and Sub-title is ???. )

This is the consistent with 3.X and AOO translations.

Thanks!
