Due to change of ownership of the fairs that were organised by Linda Fountain
we will not be at the Coventry lace fair in September. Due to this we have a

BRITISH LACE EVENTS IN MAY
Does anyone know of any residential lace courses and/or lace days in the UK
in May?
Great Escapes have a course running on 21st-23rd May with Sandi Woods in
Derbyshire. The URL I have for them doesn't seem to be working, but the

Someone has the New Idea No. 2 book by Norma Benporath for sale.
The seller says 1950-1960, yellowed paper, but all there.
I think this is the publication put together during wartime with a
special dispensation from the government to use precious paper
(hence the poor quality paper) as a morale
I've just checked this again, and someone's obviously been in touch with the
seller. The title's changed to Old bone lace bobbin. Compton. bobbin maker
and the descripion is much simpler.

This particular idea stems from the knowledge that all bone
items were carved by sailors for their sweethearts, and
that all those sailors were on whalers in 1843.
It's the same knowledge from which we get all that lace that is
indisputably victorian. :-

G'day All,
I've been following this thread with some interest, as I sit in both

Have been reading Noelene's letter about mounting. I usually do three sided
stitch. this is quite secure and takes less time than four sided stitch.
Sometimes I have used three rows of Pin Stitch as described by Elsie

I would be quite happy to be involved with SP, also except for the seemingly
high cost. Although the prezzies seem quite lovely to receive, it is a
rather substantial amount of stuff to have to compile to send to someone,
when often the family doesn't fair that well with overseas shipping costs
As far as the Christmas in July thing, I have heard that it started in the
Blue Mountains in New South Wales, when a bunch of Irish tourists decided
that the snow falling made it look like Christmas. This inspired them to
get the hotel staff to do up the place for an appropriate Christmas meal
Well, Lynn, it was in the Blue Mountains that I first heard of the Christmas in

I haven't participated in Secret Pals so far, but I've been thinking about

I'm afraid that Dragonflies generally live longer than a day. Even if you only
count the time spent as an adult. The nymphs live underwater and can take a
number of years to reach maturity. It is not uncommon for adult dragonflies to
