Hello all,
This is my first foray into Arachne.
I've been following the thread about making prickings from copies too dark
to photocopy. If the pattern is fairly small and simple, I have been known
to use tracing paper - in the U.S., this is a thin, tissue-like paper that
is translucent. Placing
Dear Friends,
Several weeks ago I wrote to ask if anyone knew of Bulgarian bobbin lace
makers. Antje Gonzalez responded, and I followed up on her answer. I have
just returned from a trip to Bulgaria, during which I did indeed meet a
number of lace makers - Bistra, Elgina, Ivanka, Rumjana,
Thank you to all who send responses to my query regarding lacemaking in

Hello,
I will be in Bulgaria for the Koprivshtitsa Folk Festival next month. Does
anyone know if there will be lace makers there (and how to find them)? The
festival does not seem to have a website; the main attraction is folk
dancing but I would expect other folk arts too.

Hello lacers,
It seems I have not received the digest in several days. Has there been no
activity, or have I been inadvertently dropped? (I will find out if I see
this message posted, right?)
I have been wondering about the history and/or development of the cookie

Hello,
Is there a book out there on how to mount finished lace? I've mostly made
stand-alone things like bookmarks, that don't need to be mounted. For some

Dear Knowledgeable Ones,
I daresay we are all learning things we didn't know about mounting lace!
You've convinced me I do need to spend the time to actually sew the lace
onto suitable fabric, and to use archival materials, and to not let lace

I think an Arachne table at the IOLI convention is a great idea. *Because
of the Arachne list*, I located and subsequently met a lacemaker during my

Hi Susan,
I have made many square pillows from construction foam. I use a bread knife
and cut very slowly, making several shallow cuts the length of my finished
product. The foam I have is black, so I mark it with a silver-colored
marking pen. It will wash right off the knife, especially if you
