Ron, I tried deleting an 'unknown' person and was unable to do so. I went to the name list and could not select the person in question.

Henry, Gene, Bert, thank you all for info and trying help.
Using prefix won't work because the name would be shown:
[EhefPrefix][Vorname][Nachname] = von der Barbara Moller.
Using suffix (as I do - as the only possible way for me) the name ist shown:
[Vorname] [Nachname] [EhefSuffix] =
Rather than leave Legacy to throw up an 'unknown' value I always try
to create an identity with as much information as I can enter.
It's surprising how much detail you may have for a person without
knowing their name.
From various sources you may know approx dates, residence, religion,
Ken,
In Family View right click on the person's box and the drop-down menu has
delete on it. When the pop-up saying it will sever various links crops up
click yes.

Henry,
Personally I delete a person if I have no detail reagrding that person and
if I do not know a first name or a surname I leave the field blank as I do
not like having Unknown or other symbols scattered around my web pages. I
always use prefixes for names so one can have Miss Mary or Mr

FTM does make the best charts of all kinds, when will Legacy do the same,
I used to use Mac's Reunion, still think it has all the best features.

Hi Henry,
Sorry if I was confusing the situation. What I was trying to say was that
Legacy would except *either* a first name *or* a surname ie, it did not
demand a surname. Thus one can have John and a blank for the surname.

Henry, I have realised that I may not be answering the point which you
raised.
It is not possible to delete a name as such but it is possible to delete the
person for whom one has no names. Family VIew right click and delete. This
does not affect other records as far as I can see and I have
Thank you Ron, Cathy, Alastair, Arnie, Wayne and Terry for your replies!
Wow, my decision isn't any easier. I was really hoping for landslide replies
about one of the programs.
However, the positive comments about FTM, does makes me interested in trying
to resolve my RIN# problem.
THE PROBLEM:
I quite agree. I like Legacy but I will continue to GEDCOM my files back to Generations so I can create Trees where boxes can be manipulated at will, connecting lines automatically redraw and I can have ALL my ancestors on it not just direct lines.Roger---Original Message FollowsI would gladly

When any gen program exports to gedcom it always fills in the blank RINs so
that the # of Individuals in the file is equal to the highest RIN. Right now
Legacy says I have 26703 individuals, (Legacy home page statistics), but
looking at the name list - RIN -LAST I see 26766 is last RIN and
Hi Richard:
Thank you for the clear explanation! So, it looks like there isn't much I
can do.
This is a good argument for going the add-on route (if only I could figure
out which one!!)
Thanks again for the reply!

My previous program was FTM. I used it for years and it was a challenge to
transfer to Legacy, but now I am comfy with Legacy and really like most of
the features. I did like the charts, though, and with all the talk here
about them, I decided to try to port my database to FTM and create some

Hi Judie,
FTM charts are simply outstanding. I use GEDCOM 5.5 for transfer to my old
FTM 11. Have not tried anything else. No reason to. The gazillion errors
have never had any impact on the charts. -- Alice

Hi Cathy.
OK, I think I understand now. Thanks for the clarification - I'll give
it a try (very carefully). As I have never unlinked anyone before, I have
a couple of questions. 1) As I enter these possible ancestors, do I
unlink each one as I enter them, or will they all be unlinked after GGGF

I can only partly replicate this. Can't say I've noticed it before - I can

2) How do you turn off the ,USA feature in Master Location List?
