That is really not the best way to convert an image from one type to
another. While a .bmp
just rename the actual files or change the file extension.

Per your question:
Hi everyone, Thanks for your replies, I have downloaded the IrfanView
Could someone please walk me through the process of changing my stored BMP
files using the IrfanView program converting them into a .JPG file while
reducing the size.
Instead of using File
and the disks together.

Natasha,
12,000MB is 12GB. Do you mean the pdf is 12MB?
I have created - other sources - pdf files in excess of 54MB but they
are not distributed through email.
Also, trimming excess 'fat' from your email reduces the size. Likewise,
trimming or segmenting your Legacy file will produce smaller
Hi Ron, I have a quite a few pictures attached to my family tree and at
least 90% of them I have saved in the bmp format, I do not know a lot about
pictures. Is there an easy way to change my bmp format to the .jgp format
and by changing the format will this affect the quality of the pictures.

Hi Ron, I have a quite a few pictures attached to my family tree and at
least 90% of them I have saved in the bmp format, I do not know
for the archive copy). At the very least if you do not
have the originals, do not delete the .bmp's.

G'day ...
You might try making a zip file of what you want to send by e-mail... if
you don't have a programme to do this - there are several out there for free.
The zip file is a compressed version of the file and your recipient will
have to also have a programme wo un-zip the folder.

Hi Natasha,
check the size of your pictures that you are wrapping in the pdf file. I
suspect they are the culprit. If so you will need to resize them using a
free program such as Picassa 2. Just don't overwrite your originals.
Joe
ps. could you also only send plain text emails to this
