I prefer to withhold the data on living people due to some of the
sensitivity of data when they may not be aware of the wide spread
access that could be made. Just an opinion.

At some point we need to post/share our data in a way that our relatives can
find it - decades from now.
What options are there?
1. Give them a printed report of the family history. Effective but instantly
gives them the data as of that day only for one part of the family.
2. Give them a CD-ROM

You will be missing a lot of information if you limit the viewers of
your tree. Distant connections can be very valuable in your
genealogical work. The upload cleans either all people not marked dead

Hi Jim,
You asked two questions, one about research and one about storing the
information you find.
My question is once you put your data on ancestry, do you do your
research there or do you continue with Legacy?
Definitely Ancestry. There is nothing like having your sources, complete

There has been a firestorm in many forums about this as it is nothing more

Jim,
Legacy is my main place for entering all updates or corrections to my
database. However, I then upload a copy of my family tree via
GEDCOM to Rootsweb which is a subsidiary of Ancestry.com. Rootsweb's

Well for a start

Instantly, ancestry starting showing me they had hints for

I do look at Ancestry, but no way do I take their word or information
as guaranteed gospel. If I find Ancestry says my ancestor John Doe
was born Jan 18, 1718, I do enter it in Legacy, but before I am sure
of it, I look for another source that says the same thing.
