Thanks for all the suggestions.
My problem is that I like to keep all my pictures and other data in separate
directories, stored in over 800 surnames directories and not within the
Legacy directory.
It would be so much easier for some of us if Legacy would program their
search for missing files

As I have mentioned before, I think Millennia could be proactive in

doing this? Here is my suggestion:

Laura,
I wouldn't hold my breath. The organisers/designers admit it is a long term

Mike is quite correct, it will not be of much use unless the big players
incorporate it into their software - and arguably their use of propriety

Hi group,
I am considering buying Legacy, and I have a few questions.
1. I am presently using Ancestral Quest 12.1.30 and am wodering if I can
import my entire file to Legacy?
2. Is there a note section in Legacy. All my information is stored in Notes
in Ancestral Quest.
3. Is there

No, he has no children. I ran the Check/Repair and the problem still exists.

On the Family view, click on the marriage icon (the first 1 in the row below
your person's dates (born, died etc). That box that pops up should be
empty. Do you maybe see a marriage to Unknown? If so, highlight it and
click delete.

Bob,
I have never used Ancestral Quest and cannot compare the problems that may, or
may not, be associated with an import from Ancestral Quest, however, I can
definitely say that I imported genealogical databases from another
Genealogical Program, that was not very compatible with Legacy
FTM are one of the big players and they provide import routine for Legacy and
The Master Genealogist as well as their own, Gedcom and PAF. I think
self-interest by the big players will go that route rather than uprate gedcom.
Incidentally FTM when using the Legacy Import does not translate
I was able to correct the problem. when right-clicking on where the the
marriage info displays, I noticed an option to display List of Wives. It was
showing an Unknown wife. When I deleted it, the MRIN disappeared.

You probably opened the Marriage Information window for that
individual and clicked on Save rather than Close.
Click on the Spouse icon on the far left of the icons underneath his
box and unlink the Unknown from him.

I suggest that if you can find a computer connected on broadband, such
as at a library, go ahead and download Legacy there, save to thumb
drive or burn to CD and then use that file to install Legacy.
You would need to do the same thing when updating.

Bo,
I'm not quite sure what you mean by the comment was hoping to not have to

you don't. The basic version contains all the extras for the upgrade and

When I first downloaded legacy I was also on dialup - it took me three
nights to find a dialup connection stable enough to get through the

If you don't have access to the library, there is another option: Go to

Hi,
Jackie has it right. My concern was downloading it from dial up.
I think I will try the suggestion of downloading it at my local library, as I
can do that on my Laptop. And if I am unable to do that then I will send for
the Basic Version for $1, plus what ever shipping may be involved.
Thank you, everyone, for your feedback, suggestions and clarifications! I was

things as they scrolled by on the screen.
However, the approaches and programs you have mentioned will help me in the
