Upgrade and update are two different things. You update a current version through the Updates section on the Legacy Home tab. You upgrade by downloading the newer version from our website. Once the newer version is installed, again you'll install updates for that version through the Legacy Home

It seems that the embedded codes only occur natively and hidden in Notes fields, which are Rich Text Format. The codes are visible when they are shown in lists where all fields are shown in a plain text format So a decision was made to show the markup when showing a rich text field within a text
