[LegacyUG] Cremated exported as event

2017-08-14 Thread Jennifer Crockett
When recently exporting my file to a GEDCOM, I noticed an option, under
"Other Options", to export burial information marked as Cremation as a
Cremation event. This passed me by and might have been there since V 8 which
I skipped on my way to V 9.

I am so happy about this as it will save me a lot of time.

I am now just wondering if I should convert all the cremation events I had
previously created and put them under the burial field.

Re: [LegacyUG] FindaGrave

2017-08-14 Thread Alta Lee Futch
The memorial number is displayed at the end of the individual's entry at
the top just below place of burial.
I think everything that was there before is there now -- just in different
locations that we will need to get used to.

Re: [LegacyUG] duplicate marriages

2017-08-14 Thread Sherry
Not uncommon. I have two couples in my file that were married twice - one
got married to his second wife before the divorce was finalized with his
first wife and had to remarry the 2nd one after the divorce finalized, and
the other couple had a small private wedding and then a year later had a
larger wedding - her dream wedding at Disney World!

We have a friend who divorced and he and his wife later remarried.

Re: [LegacyUG] duplicate marriages

2017-08-14 Thread Roberta Montpetit
It used to be that the church took care of getting the marriage license for
the couple and banns (3) were published prior to the wedding.

However, thanks to modern times and people who took advantage of the
published banns to rob the families' homes during the ceremony and
celebration after, banns are no longer published and couples must now
obtain the marriage license themselves.

Re: [LegacyUG] duplicate marriages

2017-08-14 Thread Roberta Montpetit
Where were they married? In some countries, a couple must have a civil
ceremony before they can be married by a priest in a church. I know that
is the case in a number of European countries as well in Latin America and
at least in former French colonies in Africa.

In Canada (and I believe at least the US), both ceremonies are combined
when a couple marries in a church.

How it works with Legacy, I don't know, but:

You can search by memorial ID (number). To the right of the SEARCH button,
click the down arrow to the right of "More search options".

Numbers are displayed on each memorial.

Not 100% certain but I think when you check out the price will be
reflected. You'll see that before you click the "pay now" button.

I knew who the children were. I just opened the name list and began to link

a big issue.

Nothing much lost – you just need to seek out the “orphaned” children. Best way
is to use Treefinder and they should be there as separate trees.

Nothing wrong with duplicate marriages – I have a family who married twice, a
couple of months apart. Never found out for sure why!

Oh how I wish I had seen your post before I did it Jack. I noticed that issue

Now I wonder why Legacy allowed me to duplicate the marriage to begin with. It
seems to have so many warnings but apparently not one for that.

I noticed a man was married twice in my Legacy 9. I knew he wasn't so I clicked
on it. It shows he is married to Elizabeth Thomas [9054] as preferred and
Elizabeth Thomas [9054] as the other wife. She shows the same two marriages to
him, duplicate names with same number. Duplicates do not show in the Name List.
However, there are two marriages, MRIN 1082 and 1084.

I can't see a way to merge the two marriages nor to delete one of them.

Re: [LegacyUG] buying version 9

2017-08-14 Thread Chris Hill
Hi Ruth

The current price list for a new customer shows Legacy 9.0
Deluxe (software for PC on CD & download, printed & PDF manual) for $39.95,
currently on sale at $19.98. This includes the software on CD and via download,
plus the Legacy 9.0 User's Guide, printed and PDF editions, and Legacy for
Beginners training video (on installation CD).

There is also an upgrade for Legacy 9.0 Deluxe Upgrade at
$39.95, currently on sale at $15.98, which includes Legacy 9.0 Deluxe software
on CD and via instant download, and the manual (printed and PDF). This seems to
be worse that buying a new version.

Note that shipped products in these are to resume shipping end
of August (on back order), so your extra items may not be delivered yet.

I, being UK based, always take the versions with no shippable
items, downloadable only, to ensure that I don’t have to pay for the shipping
costs and UK custom duties. May not be an issue with Millennia, but I have seen
shipping costs from the US over $100 from some suppliers.

Regards

Chris

Yes you can buy and not install immediately. You just need your Customer
Number/Unlock code then you can download the free version any time and
unlock it.

Yes you can put Legacy 9 on one computer and have Legacy 8 on the other
BUT you can't use the same database on both.

Really Legacy 9 is just Legacy 8 with a few tweaks and bug features AND
some completely new features almost all of which are Deluxe features -
which is why it makes no sense to try out the free version of Legacy 9.

The only reason for not updating is if you are sharing data with someone
else using Legacy 8 who won't update.

I might  purchase v9 while on sale.   This has likely been answered before
but I don’t remember.
Is it possible to purchase and not install for a time?
Also, can one run v8 on one computer and v9 on another?
