Hi,
After a period of time away from Linux, I am back
to looking at it again, and have a question.
The system I have here is Suse 7.0, kernel 2.2.16.
Is this a reasonable level to be working with, or should I
try to get something newer? What about patches (such as
the famous timer-clicks)?
Rick,
Mixing 32- and 64- bit libraries has come up on other architectures of
Linux. SuSE's following the convention of other Linux architectures
that have both 32 and 64 bit userland running on a 64 bit kernel. I'm
told IRIX does this too.
So... convention is /lib and /lib64.

Tom,
I'm not sure either. Did you keep a copy of your old .config file around?
Comparing the two might be informative.

Thanks to Michael MacIsaac, Ulrich Weigand, and Josh Konkol for all their

With all the new downloads and patches, as of 8/23, downloaded and applied,
everything makes and seems to run as advertised - except

The 2.2.16 kernel is quite backleveled.
SuSE, Turbo and RedHat all have distributions using the 2.4.7 kernel, which
is far more stable and capable than 2.2.16. (the current kernel is, I

Hi list,
Has anyone gotten Samba's feature of automatically downloading printer
drivers working? Documentation on this feature is very thin.
With Samba 2.2.5 I've defined [print$], got all permissions right and

Michael,
I have it working here. Do you have a printer admin= listed in the
smb.conf ? Only users listed there can upload drivers. Let me know if that

CIMS Lab, Inc (www.cimslab.com) recently ported their Unix chargeback
agent to s390/Linux. The other pieces they offer cover MVS, CICS,
VM, VSE, etc. When everything is integrated, the system will produce
invoices for the user departments at zero cost, or at some fixed
chargeback rate.
I have created a new kernel, 2.4.17 with the timer fix. When I was rebooting

Mark,
Yes I did keep the old .config. I am going to compare them now.

Just kidding -- I know how to sell them. It's not hard cuz everybody wants

So, here's the scenario: We're a government datacenter. Our customers are

I can not get our gigabit ethernet card to work with Linux. I suspect the

is with the micro code on the card. The cards works with VM TCPIP but not

Our card is at level 0422. If you are using a gigabit card what is its micro

Thanks.

We're sort of stumped with the pricing scheme until we can figure out how
much we can realistically expect to handle
