Hi David,
Two years ago when I first became involved with Linux, I knew absolutely
nothing about it (zip, zero, zilch). I purchased an I32 version,
installed
it according to the installation instructions, and proceeded to study it

Well, I'll add my 2 cents.
As a shop with VM in it for about 20 years, we don't want IBM
to put a lot of effort into SAF and such. The first thing we
do is pull out RACF and DIRMAINT and put it VM:Secure. We do
appreciate the 1 page install sheet though because we tend to

If you followed the following
install a 2nd z/VM under the first and to activate SAF there
so that you
have a real z/VM to learn with as you can't guarantee that there is an
available LPAR to install z/VM in for experimentation.
Then your production Linux/390 would be running under a 2nd

I don't have release 4 yet, but a good guess is you need to do a vmfsetup

My notes say that I had to issue vmfsetup zvm cp before I ran the
VMADMCTL command.
Be aware that there are a LOT of limitations to SAF and if you are
planning to eventually migrate to a native z/VM environment you will need
a second z/VM running somewhere else to learn on as you won't be able
