I forgot to mention that this strange behavior started with LyX 2.2.0 since in
LyX 2.1.5 the Italian keyboard used to work smoothly.

It seems that in Mac OSX Italian keyboard 'Ctrl-m' is mapped to ‘?’. I have a
modified layout of the Italian keyboard in which Ctrl-m is mapped to ‘U+D’.
With this layout LyX works correctly.

I have no idea on how keyboard input works in LyX. It seems that a standard
feature of Italian keyboard in Mac OS X is to return ‘?' when you type ^M. I
checked this also on previous version of Mac OS X and I obtained the same
behavior.
