I have really had rather nice results using the commercial (but with quite a cheap educational price) tex2word filter for Word, including equations, but excluding figures (you need to reinsert them). Unfortunately, I have not tried it with a recent version of Word, so I cannot say if it continues

I was not going into WORD but into LibreOffice Writer. I realize the difficulties in such conversions, but I do have colleague who will not use anything but MS-WORD, and I do collaborate with them on some manuscripts. It is much less of a problem for a short paper.
