Hello Everyone, EEI has created a Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11.x) upgrade self service offer that will upgrade a Mac running versions as old as 10.6.8 up to OS X Yosemite to Mac OS X El Capitan. In order to have access to the offer, you must have a device that is either running a Berkeley Desktop

In August of last year Apple addressed an OpenSSH vulnerability (CVE-2015-5600) with "Security Update 2015-006” (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205031). Although the update ran on both Mavericks and Yosemite, OpenSSH was only patched for 10.10.x. At that time IST was sending out SNS alerts

H Roy, We have been monitoring the OS X migration/upgrade situations since at least November and have taken numerous steps to mitigate this issue for our customers. All CSS IT staff are actively communicating to customers as they locate outdated machines. We have limited insight to computers

Any Mac using the Berkeley Desktop image should have the ability to do a Self Service upgrade to El Capitan without needing a technician. But I know that doesn't cover a big chunk of machines out there. Otherwise, we're stuck going desk to desk for inventory or asking customers to self report

Roy, You may be interested to know that CSS IT has been contacting everyone that we know about who has noncompliant equipment and we have in fact been spending a lot of time helping people bring their systems into compliance. But we can't address systems we don't know about. Vivian Sophia

CSS IT cannot inventory all the supported units, that would take months with the personal he have, even if no one was making requests in the meantime. Departments have to inventory there own stuff. Vivian Sophia Berkeley IT CSS IT High-Impact Client Support Lead Micronet Community of Practice

This is very interesting. We have several CSS supported computers still running version 10.9x Apple OS. I think there is somewhat of a disconnect in the communication with CSS. I believe that they need to do a complete inventory of supported units and upgrade where necessary. Don't you agree?

The security update you're seeing is for Safari. I believe there were two security vulnerabilities that were identified that led ISP to the decision to remove OS 10.9 and earlier from support and I have yet to find anything saying they have been patched yet: CVE-2015-5600 CVE-2015-1130 ---
