A correction on the Scoters in the Grand Marais area. One was a Surf Scoter
instead of a White-winged Scoter.

Both the White-winged Scoter and the Black Scoter were in the Grand Marais
Harbor and East Bay off shore area October 23. I photographed them both from a
long distance.

lifer for us
and extra exciting because it turns out to be a first record for Cass County!

My wife and I were driving down Hennepin Ave., in Uptown Mpls.,
when flock of common rock doves flew over. Behind them there

A steady stream of warblers flew over the Sawtooth Mts. this afternoon. Many
Blackpoll, Chestnut-sided, Tennessee, Northern Parula, and Nashville Warblers.
Most I have seen in the last two weeks.

Swifts and Purple Martins are active in town (Canby and Gary) each
evening.
On the South Dakota side, 2 Nature Conservancy sites (7 Mile Fen, and Crystal
Springs Fen)
are reliable spots to find Upland Sandpipers. Found 4 Snowy Egrets up at Waubay
NWR.

My dog flushed a nesting Wild Turkey early this afternoon;
She was incubating 3 Turkey eggs and, oddly, 1 Pheasant egg.

We just found a Say's Phoebe in Mound Springs SNA. The
bird was located all the way to the sound end of the
minimum maintenance road at the southern boundary of
the SNA.

60's woke them up, but even with some bugs emerging along the shoreline, I'm
guessing
they weren't able to consume enough calories to get them through the
upper-30-degree
nights. An eerie and heartbreaking scene.

ansers. We did have one fly-over flight of about 80
greater white-fronted geese. It was really pretty 'dead' but things can
change so rapidly. We thought that with the all-day rain on Monday the
birds that were seen on Sunday would still be around, but not so.

Birded 180 marsh and 190th and 200th Sts. yesterday
and found total of four horned larks and hundreds of
starlings. Heard a couple of cowbirds. With eyes to the
sky for geese, nothing to see.

I rebound the Townsands Solitare found by Herb Dingman on Sunday. The bird
was just north of the creek crossing on 15th Avenue NW. This is northeast of
Rice and north of CR12.
