How can I have notifications
sent to an alphanumeric pager?
There are two ways you
can do this.
If your paging company has an email-pager gateway, you can
simply have Nagios send an email message
Cell Phone != Alphanumeric Pager
Lots of cell providers simply don't provide IXO/TAP service.
And, as you point out, e-mailing to an e-mail address is all well and
good unless your report is Core Router Down, then you might find
out about it, several times, after you've repaired it. :-)
Well, if you're just trying to send it via e-mail, you can send it
like any other e-mail message. Nagios basically injects its e-mail
into its local MTA on that box, which is configured however you set
it up (and that's a little outside the scope of this list, but
relaying to offsite
Yes.
You'll need to have
Something like this in your contacts.cfg
(Note the pager line and the host-notify-by-epager)
define contact{
contact_namejeff
alias Me
service_notification_period 24x7
host_notification_period
Jeff,
Thanks for you input, however this is not working, it send to e-mail addresses on my local domain, but not to any address out side of that.

Derek,
That is pretty much what i though, but i guess i have something goofed up. It will send mail enternal to our domain/exchange server, but nothing out side of our domain, (i.e. Vtext.com
). Is there a way inside Nagios to tell it to send all out bound mail through our Exchange server?

Joe,
The problem you are having lies *outside* of Nagios. You need to
configure the local system (where Nagios is installed) to properly send
oubound mail through the Exchange server.

Is it permitted? Yes
Is it configured to do so? Most likley not.
I am not new to Linux however i am not that versed in it, so i need to know what i need to configure in this Linux box to make it relay through Exchange. If you guys can't tell me (do to rules/restrictions on this list) please tell
Jeff,
What i mean is that, Nagios will send mail to my internal Exchange address, however it wont send to any address outside of my internal domain.

One thing to be careful of, once you get Exchange your Nagios
server properly relaying email to the Internet, is to make sure that
relayed email has
