been running LaTeX2e through TeXnic center fine.
On the basis of the TeXexec manual, I ran texexec --make en
I attempted to build a small file test.tex by running texexec --pdf
test from the directory in which

probably due to the changes in latin modern map/enc naming; older
versions don't mix well currently
what puzzles me is:
pdfetex (file cmsy8): kpathsea: Running
(as in a LaTeX letter class or
book class) on top of ConTeXt. Lately, I have also become
disappointed by the non-local nature of things I ran into (e.g. having
a float in an endnote and having the float end up in the vincinity of
the endnote marker in the main text, not in the endnote chapter), which
append at the
end of the mail. The same file ran with texexec.pl compiles fine and
produces correct ouptut.
3. In makeidx, it is possible to give the pagereference in the index
a certain format with code like this \index{keyword|textit} so that
the page-number will appear in Italics

on Debian Sarge, and the version of texexec is
3.1 which I think is out of date, so i tried to update ConTeXt.
I downloaded www.pragma-ade.com/context/latest/cont-tmf.zip , and
unziped it to /usr/local/share/texmf/, then I ran mktexlsr and
texexec --make --all.
But when i ran texexec --version
I just had to reinstall my TeX installation (upgrade to OS X 10.4).
After mucking around with my old TeX, I decided to reinstall, and I
hit a problem: even though I ran updmap, ConTeXt doesn't seem to work
with the fonts I installed myself unless I include the \loadmapfile
[foo] either

if you download the latest alpha release, the engine subpath stuff
should work; if not, run:

and first I got an error message due to the fact that I had a
context-en.fmt made with xetex (in
/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/web2c/xetex/cont-en.fmt
but I renamed it).
Then after making a texhash, ran again context and ended up with an
error
I tried today's beta too. Got exactly the same output as Otared's.
