We’re watching a pair of Peregrine Falcons repeatedly bringing Dovekies into
the parking lot at Smith Point Park, Suffolk Co. and feeding on them, after our
second big wind and rain event this week. First one was found by Mike Cooper.
We re up to three now in the last hour. We’ll try and
Grubby make with thick long tuft resting with Athya flock on nw corner of Fort
Pond.

The 10th Annual Seatuck LI Birding Challenge was conducted on 16 September
this year, in very pleasant weather. As the rosy fingers of dawn lit the
sky, it was 61° and mostly cloudy under northwest winds, warming up into
the mid 70s and clearing to mostly sunny
expert birders to complete
novices. Fall migration provides large numbers of birds and a great
diversity of species.

The godwit appeared at 7:02 on the flats, feeding and preening with the gulls
and terns. We were able to confirm that the tail and rump are barred as far up
as we could discern, as is the underwing, consistent with the Siberian race of

Snowy Plover continues along the

by scoping to the sw from Duryea’s but it is probably better viewed from Navy
Road (Montauk). Three Red-necked Grebes and five Raxorbills also. These in

getting into our cars. It came from the east or northeast heading southwest.

Adult Arctic Tern visited the west puddle (now dry) at 9:05 and flushed and
returned several times. Two Gull-billed Terns over the Common Tern colony to
the east.
