In a brief stop this morning there was a raft of 40-50 Canvasback, a single drake Redhead duck, a single F scaup (don't ask which) and several bufflehead and ruddy duck. For those who ride Metro North the ducks aren't far off shore. Mariandale is S of Croton Harmon and N of Ossining. Should be

To put the Red Crossbill sighting in context, I was doing a migration watch at the turnaround at Jones Beach West End. I left off yesterday saying that I was hoping for a notable finch flight. I guess any flight that includes crossbills would qualify as notable - even if the overall numbers were
