I visited Pike's Beach this evening - nothing spectacular or really all that out of the ordinary but there were two non-breeding plumaged Piping Plovers, several Greater Yellowlegs, a small group of Ruddy Turnstones and plenty of semipalmated sandpipers. Photos can be seen here:

We come in from Suffolk and on our original trip took the LIRR to Atlantic Terminal (in Brooklyn), and then the Q down to Coney Island. It works really well, and it's a somewhat shorter subway ride than going all the way from Penn Station. If you were going in to Penn you could walk to the Q or
